And I don't recall anything in the RAW about not whacking your opponent with a piece of 2 x 4
It's worth noting that this is only effective with smaller playing areas less than 36" across or if your opponent tries to deploy a flank march closer to your long table edge. For all other table sizes a 2" x 6 is recommended.
