Germany at War: Barbarossa 1941 Announced!
We and Phobetor are pleased to announce the upcoming release of Germany at War: Barbarossa 1941, a new introductory turn-based operational wargame.
This new title features gameplay in the style of Panzer General and Panzer Corps, with a branching, event-filled campaign that takes you from the start of Operation Barbarossa towards the historical goals of Archangel or Astrakhan. Follow each Army Group through its initial battles, build up a core force, then decide which front will have the main focus, North, Center or South. Your decisions and outcomes determine the course of the campaign, which is designed with replayability in mind.
Germany at War: Barbarossa 1941 is more historically focused than similar games, with an emphasis on historical units and attachments and consistent modeling of unit and hex scale, but is still a fun and easy to learn wargame.
With 4 Campaigns, including 37 scenarios in the main campaign, 14 stand-alone scenarios and an editor with which to add new mission, multiplayer PBEM++ support and good graphics, this game is an exciting new milestone for gamers who enjoy Panzer Corps and similar games.

A WW2 game, great !
I had the fear they make a game about the 30 years war or maybe the 7 years war.

Curious, is this a revamping of Operation Barbarossa: The Struggle for Russia released by Matrix games?
the graphics ( and name) seem very similar...

Erik Rutins wrote:Yes, but very distantly. That game was done by a different team, but one developer from the original game did also work on this one. This new release is also much better in all respects, but especially in terms of gameplay and the campaign. It's much more similar to a more realistic Panzer Corps than to the old Operation Barbarossa.

Wow, looking at the few screenies, am I correct that each "unit" might actually be made up of sub-units within? I see a lot of symbols for At, recon companies regiments etc....

In Matrix is announced as Turn-Based IGOUGO and I believe that information is correct.

Hmmm so I was correct, their is partial developer connection with the previous Matrix Games title mentioned in the post above.
I do hope there is a lot of evolution of some of the previous efforts from the other design, as I found it sort of lacking in some aspects.
I am a bit concerned though in general, that the game might be a bit too similar all the same with Panzer Corps and not genuinely unique enough to be meriting my attention.
A bit like how Conflict of Heroes, and Band of Heroes has just a bit too much in common to be good over all for each other. So many games, so little time, and I prefer games to be wholely unique in design when possible.
Complimentary "when are we getting out *&%$#@ Steel Panthers remake" question here
Come on guys, hire a software guy and tell him, 'you are making a clone of this game, shut up and don't argue, the fans won't stop demanding it'

From what I've read about the game, it doesn't seem to be too similar with Panzer Corps.DSWargamer wrote:I am a bit concerned though in general, that the game might be a bit too similar all the same with Panzer Corps and not genuinely unique enough to be meriting my attention.
Still, I haven't played yet to know for sure.
Re: Germany at War: Barbarossa 1941 Announced!
If this game is "to scale," does that mean stacking will be allowed, unlike in Panzer Corps?
Re: Germany at War: Barbarossa 1941 Announced!
Looks interesting for sure, I'm too much intimidated by War in the East but this seems to be a blend of PG/PzC and War in the East. I would like to know how the logistics system will work out though, I guess it will be a bit different then just ammo and petrol. Having a scenario editor is always a good thing (I hope you can make campaigns aswell).

When can we sign up for beta?
Re: Germany at War: Barbarossa 1941 Announced!
I'm not sure if they are even accepting more beta testers. It was announced in both forums a couple of months ago. The beta test is now in the final phase,as far as I know.Razz1 wrote:When can we sign up for beta?
Anyway I can't find the announcement anymore. Sorry.

Iain McNeil wrote: Hi guys
we urgently need some more beta testers to give the game a last look this weekend before we prepare the gold master. We're especially interested in giving multiplayer a final blast over the weekend.
We have deployed our new beta sign up system which is all shiny and fully automated. We hope it all goes smoothly but you'll also be guinea pigs for that!
You can sign up here:

We'll be admitting people Friday for a weekend beta test. Let anyone who might be interested know.
Thanks!

It seems the units in this game are able to turn to every side, a clear advance to "Panzercorps". But sorry, the the terrain looks very ugly from my
standpoint. The old PG series had a more beautiful terrain.
Will there be a demo ?
