Deployment - How to cancel unit?

I purchased a unit, but then decided I don't want it. How can I cancel it, so that I get my prestige and core slot back?

Select your unit, then 'D' for disband. If done during the deploy phase, you will get your prestige and core slot back.

But you'll loose the prestige, unless you do it during the deployment phase.

As for 'how' you are supposed to know that only disbanding during deploy phase returns prestige... that's a good question. I'm sure it's mentioned somewhere, though a quick look at the manual and tutorial didn't reveal this to me.

If you don't like where you placed a unit during deployment, you can take it back. Right click the unit on the map and it returns to your reserve.

This is also the method for converting captured units into prestige. If you capture a unit that you decide not to use in combat, wait until the deployment phase of the next scenario, select the unit in the list and type "d." You will receive prestige equal to the cost of the unit, even if it is below strength. (This is the same procedure used for regular units.)
