All,
Does FOG digital follow the same rules as the tabletop version?

The PC combat and cohesion resolution is quite close to the TT rules but movement and the size of armies in terms of BGs feels much more like DBM that the TT version of FoG. The PC game is a good game but definitely not the same thing as FoG TT.

It has been a long time since I played the TT so I needed someone's gaming opinion. I also love painting and selling armies, so playing the digital game helps me look at armies and how they play.

I play and enjoy both games despite the differences. There are significant differences between the two so I wouldn't rely on FoG PC as a way to become a skilled FoG TT player (or vice versa), but no reason you shouldn't enjoy both and the digital version is certainly an inexpensive way to test drive an army to see how you like it. I would recommend playing with lower points totals(400 and under) in FoG PC if considering an army for the table top since troops limits on the PC when you play larger games become more of a concern than for normal TT army sizes.

I have played a few TT games recently and like certain aspects of the TT rules better. In particular, the use of battlelines and the actual combining of bases into battle groups gives the TT game a different feel than the PC game. The PC game tends to result in a multitude of individual BGs roving where they will, particularly the light troops. Advantages in the PC game include the precise movement of BGs without measuring millimeters and the cumulative affect of missile fire. BGs can be worn down through missile fire in the PC game which seems more historically accurate than the method used on the TT game. However, missile fire in the PC game has few, if any, restrictions regarding target priority. It is common for multiple light BGs to converge on a single enemy BG and reduce its strength until it disrupts or worse. This is not so easy in the TT game, especially since 2.0 reduced missile range for some light troops.

Both games have, in my opinion, a flaw in the calculation of victory in which each BG is weighted the same. I know this has been debated at length but I hope the designers of the new version of the PC game being developed consider alternatives.
