The Worlds 2014 - let's get started

Post by Martin0112 »

We can announce "The Worlds 2014" to be held in Germany.
Our goal is to have players from all over the world meeting there for a weekend of historical wargaming in multiple different systems as well as having lots of fun outside the games.

We have now the place as well as the date fixed.

The Worlds 2014 will start on Friday, August 15th and end on Sunday, August 17, 2014
The place is the Rhein-Mosel-Halle in Koblenz.

We have already several tournaments planned as follows:
  • DBMM (15mm)
  • DBM (15mm)
  • DBR (15mm)
  • FOG:AM (15mm)
  • FOG:N (15mm)
  • FOG:R (15mm)
  • Lasalle (28mm)
  • WAB (28mm)
We are still checking if we can also offer the following systems:
  • DBA (15mm or 28mm)
  • Impetus (28mm)
  • SAGA (28 mm)
  • WRG 6th (15mm)

We also will have several vendors and demogames there.

All the details can be seen on our brand-new webpage http://www.komicon.de/the-worlds-2014/
We have also reserved about 150 hotel rooms for you to book directly on this page.

I'm hoping for lots of players to join us there.
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact me.

Best regards

Martin

Martin,

How many places are there for FOG R at the Worlds. The website seems to suggest only 16?

We will be flexible with the number of players.
If we see we are running out of places, we will increase the number as long as we have enough space, no worries

For the hotels... if you click the links, you are redicted to the hotel homepage.
The right way to reserve a room is to fill out the form at the bottom of the hotel page

Just out of interest... I have no means of getting here, so this is just a general question...

For the Worlds held in non-English speaking countries, is English the standby language? I'd hope so, but that seems very arrogant. Like, I'd hate to host the worlds here in Australia (which we did this year) and have to speak Spanish to play. That seems rather... unfair on the locals.

Being limited to my native provincial English would make me hesitate to go to play another game in a non-English speaking country.

R

While I have not played outside England, when I have met the non-native English speakers at events such as Roll Call and Britcon they all seem fluent in English as well as their mother tounge (in some cases enough to put some of us to shame) so I would not worry. I am sure that even if you went to France someone would be willing to speak English to you...

Well, I've managed to register for the FoGR. It seems only to work if you join the 3T system first!

However, I haven't been able to pay yet...

Can the organisers take note that bank transfers from the UK to Germany are prohibitively expensive - adding around €25 per transaction!

I suggest you set up a Paypal account (or something similar) for those of us outside the Eurozone.

Regards,

Dave,

Would one option be for all British players to make one bank transfer using the BHGS as a collecting point for our entries.

Yes... but why throw the extra weight (and cost) on an already stretched BHGS team?

Much simpler to set up one Paypal account we can all access.

Also bear in mind the Eurozone might not be a "zone" by this time next year ( ) so a lot of people might need a way to make international transfers...

Dave

PS I wouldn't have any objection to paying the increased cost of using Paypal to make the transfer. Approx E2

Apparently the payment system is a week or so away, and should include Paypal too...

OK, it was more than a week, but we are close to have Paypal ready.

Meanwhile we also have several registrations for FOG-R as well.

This looks very promising

Surely the language of the ancient western world was Greek not Latin.
