Begin pp: 325. End pp: 650(V)/750(T). Net +225/325.

Core Changes:
- Received: None.
Disbanded: None.
Purchased: None.
Upgraded: None.
Problems:
- • The rather fragile “V” weapons should not be bullet-proof.
- • I was nowhere near a “Triumph” at 16; that would have taken more forces or a better briefing as to the V-sites’ location. I assumed they were likely spread over the area, so I launched prudent forces in each direction. Actually biased towards the correct direction, in fact.
• Even though I sent only minimal forces the “wrong” direction, there weren’t enough to get through in the allotted turns. I added four turns, and found I could just finish in 19.
• The V weapons take on average four or five attacks from powerful units to destroy, which is part, but not all, of the problem. They should be effectively destroyed in one or at most two attacks from a full strength tank, tactical aircraft or infantry unit.
• The existence of a German cruiser in the Scheldt estuary in 1944 is highly suspect (not that it influences the outcome at all).
Re: Allied: V sites
Beta 2, FM, Chess mode, Triumph 11/16, Ending prestige 3734.
I bought a new Hallifax Mk III bomber for strat bombing enemy tanks.
Exp. of enemy tanks (3 stars in FM) is a killer. I was barely able to survive some attacked by enemy tanks such as Panther. My exp. is mostly inferior to the enemy, and with that, it is difficult to survive enemy counter attacks. At that time of the war, smaller units of tanks (Str 5-8) would be perhaps more logical. Reduced exp. in some units also. There are certainly veteran units, but must be accompanied by green units.
I was attacked twice by bomber that appeared on the airfield I just captured (in the North). That is pretty strange and not really nice.
I confirm also Kamerer remark on durability of V weapons, it should be much more fragile, like Opel transport. However, it allowed me to encircle them and force them to surrender after strat bombing them, gaining a lot of prestige that way. I beginning to like this idea of gaining prestige buy surrender.

Re: Allied: V sites
V weapons aren't any tougher than normal infantry units, both having 8 ground defense and soft target types. So just treat them as you would infantry, use something like a Sherman 105 in direct fire mode or a Crocodille and they are very vulnerable.

21) V Sites - Beta 3
Level: Colonel
Prestige begin: 4203 After Deploy: 626 End/Victory: 246/3697
Results: Victory 17/17
OS all units
Core Inf: Bridge Engineer, 2 HW inf, Ranger, 2 SE Rangers
Armor: 6 Churchill IV, 1 Crocodile, 2 M4A3(76), 1 Daimler, 2 M36 Jacksons
Artillery: 2 M7 Priest, 2 BL 7.2 inch, 2 155mm M12 GMC, 1 M4A3(105)
Air: Tempest V, 2 SE Spitfire IX, 2 Mosquito VI S2, Lancaster, B-24 Liberator
Problems/Issues: Was not sure what to do with the captured V1 Rocket on the train. I was unaware of any specific locations to move it to. I just moved it to a secure location.
Question: Can I disband the V1 (1200pp) in the next scenario?
Scenario: A Small River Force, consisting of (1 M4A3(76), 1 M36 Jackson, 1 M4A3(105), Bridge Engineer, and two SE Rangers), was deployed south of the river at Arnhem to head west and then cross the river behind Ultrecht. There it joined another force to take Ultrecht. The River Force then headed west to Leiden adn then SW to Den Haag. They destroyed the V1 Sites, hangers, and captured the V1.
Another small force went North from Arnhem and captured Apeldoorn. Then it was held by a Daimler, HW inf in the city and backed by BL 7.2 inch artillery. They held off an attack by a armored rail.
The remaining core force attacked NW from Arnhem to Ultrecht, Amersfort, Amsterdam, and Haarlem. It was a tough fight against entrenched 3 star elements. The Air attacks by the axis was handled easily.
I just failed to get to Rotterdam within the time frame. I had it surrounded it and began reducing entrechment but was unable to take it.
On to Berlin West...

Re: Allied: V sites
Scenario: V Sites (Beta 3)
Difficulty: general
Outcome: Victory on turn 17/17
Starting Prestige: 6664
End Prestige: 929, 4158 after victory reward
Core: 2 x Engineer 43, 2 x HW infantry 43, 1 x SE SAS, 6 x Churchill Mk.IV, 1 x Sherman Firefly, 1 x Crocodile, 2 x Challenger, 3 x 7.2 inch guns, 2 x M7 priest, 2 x M12 GMC, 1 x Calliope, 2 x SE Meteor, 2 x P-47D Thunderbolt, 1 x Beaufighter Mk.IF, 1 x Wellington Mk.X, 1 x Mosquito Mk.VIS2, 1 x B17G Flying Fortress
Having no clue what to expect and where really the V rockets are i split my troops in two groups. About 2/3 of them pushed west and the rest went north.
In the North there was virtually nothing except the single Panther so all the troops send there was virtually wasted. After clearing the northern bit of the map i ordered the troops to turn back and move to help with the main attack but they never arrived in time.
In the west the opposition was quite light until i arrived at Rotterdam. The Tiger, Jangdpanther and friends was a bit of a pain but nothing to hard. The lack of AA in this area made it easy to dispose them. The V rockets despite only having a strength of 5 are quite resilient. A single attack seems to rarely kill them. I managed to clear the area and kill all the rockets and capture the train but time was running low. I just managed to capture Harleem and started assaulting Amsterdam when i run out of time. I guess with two or three more turns i should have been able to get a Triumph.
The map generally is quite good imho but i see a problem there. If the player focuses all his forces into the right direction the map seems fine as it is but if he splits them getting Triumph is nearly impossible. How can this be fixed?
1) Make it clear in the briefing where the V rockets sites are so the player knows he can mostly ignore the northern part of the map
2) Simply add 3 or 4 turns to the map. This will make the map trivial when the player accidentally or by prior knowledge concentrate his troops in the right region but at least you can get a Triumph that way on the first play through without relying on luck.

That is perhaps the problem, V weapons should be as fragile as artillery. They must not be able to protect themselves like infantry.Kerensky wrote:V weapons aren't any tougher than normal infantry units, both having 8 ground defense and soft target types. Beta 3 - Leutnant level - Standalone scenario
I agree with the comments above:
1. Tell the player the V weapons are in the southern part of the map
2. V weapons are fragile, not as strong as infantry (in defense value)
Hopefully I had a lot of prestige because I lost my paratroopers quite soon, I sent them in the southern part where they were crushed by arty and a Tiger.
I liked the presence of SE FW 190 and SE infantry units + Panther.
I find strange that AI never escorts its Ju 57 Stuka and He 129.
Very good scenario!
Just my 2cents:
Shouldn't you foresee extra bonus if all V2 rockets are destroyed ? and tell it in the intro message ?

Re: Allied: V sites
I ran out of prestige on this map. Needed a couple of more turns.
However, I forgot to place my air units on the first turn.

Re: Allied: V sites
Thanks to all for the feedback so far. Only change was another reduction of strength for V weapons for 1 point and two turns added to the clock. Now V2 rockets are at strength 4 (only V1 is still at full strength) and one to two attacks should be enough. I found it is good to soften them with fighters first if they are free from clearing the sky while bombers are dealing with armour.

Re: Allied: V sites
Beta 4. General. Starting prestige 7619, ending 446. Triumph on 19/19.
This was a pretty tough battle. I lost multiple units, suffered severe prestige losses but I was able to pull out the victory. I was surprised by the amount of German armor. That really slowed down my advance. The armored train was a big surprise too. I think I sent too many forces north to clear that area of the map. It was a slow slog to clear out the cities. Dug in Germans backed by artillery and supported by AA are very hard to dig out.
I wouldn't change the balance here. Despite my struggles, I was able to win.

V Rocket Sites
General level
DV on 18/19
Ending prestige 2734
Losses 1x Veteran Sherman
This was a very difficult scenario, as always, the German heavy armor was quite formidible. I ended up sending some of my units on a goose chase in different points of the map trying to see if there were any V units hidden somewhere. My losses were overall quite high but the difficulty felt right for being the "hard"branch of the campaign. My only recommendation might be to reduce the overstrength for some of the heavy armor units.

Both names are still misspelled in beta4.IDS_STRING30 Amersfort = Amersfoort
IDS_STRING40 Ijssel River = IJssel River
Like I wrote in the Market Garden topic, this map is missing the same forest (North of Arnhem). See the attached map for details. There are two big forests just below the lake 'IJsselmeer'.
Not sure why there is a forest below Amsterdam (see red circle). If you compare the two maps, there is none in reality.

Re: Allied: V sites
Played this as a stand-alone scenario. This is a very good battle. I lost many units, but eventually destroyed the Axis forces. I managed a Victory on Colonel setting. I would not change anything with this one.
Re: Allied: V sites
RC1 - Colonel - DV at turn 18
Those SE-Panther and Tiger were tough opponents, they hit my tanks hard. The scenario itself is very entertaining and challenging. I managed to capture the last objective and clear the map one turn before the end, I'm looking forward to play this scenario in a higher difficulty-level. I was suprised by the message that I was able to capture a train. What had I done to get it? I was able to destroy the armoured train a few turns before so I didn't know what I had done to capture the Vergeltungswaffe. When I got the message there were still two V2 on the map (5,29 and 6,29).
All in all a good scenario, the only thing to be added could be a hint about the train: "You captured a Train because..."
