Holding the fortress

Post by enric »

Which fortress?

Objectives
  • Lose no more than 10 units
    it's a joke.
  • All others are ok.
Overal and others
  • Nice map.
  • Nice idea,
you must first push the enemies from the city and then advance on the open country to get the Allied positions.
  • Weakness
The AI, as usual. You take a position then wait the AI moves, they expose and you may crush everything.
Then advance a little more, and wait, the AI exposes again and you crush, and so on.
    It's "A"rtificial but not "I"intelligent :D , I'm conscious that to make AI it's very difficult... .
Why they advance if they are winning? The allied has the flags, don't need to expose anything.
When AI spots a unit it sends everything it has to there, exposing vehicles through ambushing areas, sending infantry on the open, ummm... I use this to kill annoying units
  • I played without using the two Panthers than come as reinforcements, they are not necessary at all.

New beta (no number)
The M5 icon in the bottom, selected or target, still flicker with garbage.

I agree about the AI - there are a few battles where this is an issue (most particularly Holding the Heights where they drive back and forwards exposing flank and rear shot when just sitting and firing would have been much more effective).

In terms of presentation the text block "into the town itself..." on the splash screen needs adjusting so that the "..." doesn't flow onto a new line. The campaign splash page needs a similar text box adjustment for "the blow will fall..."
The Pak38 near the bridge is pointless - this is an attacking scenario - either it needs to be changed to something else or a truck provided to move it.
The Hold All VPs achievement did not register after the battle.
The Wurframen is inaccurate and slow loading (historical) but was devastating when it did hit. This unit is just annoying as it seem both inaccurate and weak and is slow to load. Historically it was common for these to fire partial racks and then fire the others after the partial reload. This allowed less than the usual 6 shots but meant a relatively constant rate of fire.

When Panthers arrive the message shows a British heat and no text.

AI seems improved. It doesn't attack at the very beginning and so one is forced to advance. And because it's through urban terrain inevitably one's infantry walks into ambushes. By the end, most (if not all!) of my infantry had been reduced to 3 or fewer "men" per unit. And I believe I'd lost all my scouts.

Now there is a halftrack at the start and one can also use the reinforcement trucks. This gun ended up taking out at least one AI vehicle in my playthrough.

This has been fixed. :)

Mine was pretty devastating to the Priest, when I found it. And then a 57mm (or other AT gun if my memory isn't serving me well). Eventually, it was taken out by a rallying AT gun along with one of my Panthers!
