Re: GJS'44 - D-Day - June 10th NT - Caen by night
My vote for next project would be 2 (US in Normandy), 1 (Pacific) and 3 (St Nazarie)
As for other raids...
Cabanyatuan (sp)
Desert Rats (some raids on ammo dumps, disrupt convoys, etc. - all night raids, use the British units from the Airfield scenario!)
Maybe something like in the movie Devils Brigade, where they capture the Germans without a shot
Cockleshell Heroes raid on shipping
And I'm sure there are more Jon!

Don't forget the iconic "Guns of Navirone" raid!
Maybe even one for "Where Eagles Dare"
And German Commandoes raiding the Americans during the Battle of the Bulge

Honour79 and I have been playing Caen by night, but it ended very suddenly as I took the German flag before he took any of my flags. I guess the campaign maps are based on the tournament maps, but I think it should be possible to keep on fighting even if you don't control any flags in campaign games.

Uh oh! Thanks CaveHobbit... Yes, the latest campaign maps are based on the improved tourney ones... but campaign games shouldn't end prematurely even if one side takes all five flags early... If this is happening, I'll need to fix it, and both sides should restart... It's that important. Please tell both players!... Am at work today, so can't access the files I need...cavehobbit wrote:Honour79 and I have been playing Caen by night, but it ended very suddenly as I took the German flag before he took any of my flags. Don't know much about Battle Academy, and don't know much about this mod (which looks interesting), but I'm amused that you took the art from the strat map and icons from the GJS mod developed for the Close Combat series many years ago. Perhaps you asked from permission a long time ago? If not, would have been nice if you had.
At any rate, best of luck.

Re: GJS'44 - D-Day - June 10th NT - Caen by night
Hey CC_Cathartes, Thanks for your intriguing message. Glad we amused you. It's a pity you only discovered our campaign six months in... Sounds like we could have learned a lot from you...
The original designer of GJS for the BA series, Granfali, brilliantly adapted the Gold Juno Sword concept to use as a manyplayer campaign, which we subsequently further refined over several iterations, to the form that you see it in today... Obviously, we've broken the map into our own strategic sections, and our BA battle maps are all originals (believe me, each section map takes days to weeks of my time, so I surely know, sigh... the pain, the pain, lol
)
I understand from the various scattered GJS webpages that it's an unofficial mod that is 'free for download, copying and distribution, but may not be sold'. I don't know if Granfali contacted the GJS team... and we just ran with Granfali's idea... But of course you're right. It would be great to let the original GJS dev team know how we've taken their idea and redeveloped it rather differently... Are any of them still active? Do you know the most effective contact details?... Indeed, we'd love to have them onboard, especially if they might like to help? Obviously the same invitation to you... We're looking for a temporary/permanent new GM, if you'd like to volunteer? Any of us would be happy to walk you through what we've done and what's required, if you're interested?
Now that we're confident the basic concept works well, we have future plans to attempt an Omaha, Utah, Cotentin equivalent for our American brethren... It's going to be cool...
Might you, or anyone involved in the CC version of GJS from way back when, like to become involved in that? Let's get you onboard. What's your email address?
PS. Noticed you wrote you that don't know much about Battle Academy (yet). We totally recommend getting into BA. I accidentally discovered it after a friend recommended the iPad version, and have since become hooked, like many others. It's available on several platforms, with good players always available for MP battles. The core game engine is very playable, mixing icons and animations that are easy on the eye, with ruthlessly efficient strategy, and approximately predictable rules. Sort of like board wargaming without the hassle factor. Critically, it's got the most flexible system I've seen on a wargame, attracting a host of modders to add and improve play, bringing new features and functions that occasionally then get copied into the core game... You'll never be short of scenarios... Come on in. The water is mighty fine...

I would prefer to play on if MLazar is OK with that. We have no intention of venturing out against his superior forces to grab his only flag...

I'm happy to support playing on, or a restart... at players/commanders decision.
Be aware that if any units retreated onto a 5th flag, to accidentally trigger an end game, it would have to go for a restart, so be careful if you prefer to play on...

Hey Al,
Cabanyatuan sounds a really cool concept... 'Sneaking and peeping', mixing scouts, rangers, involvement from local guerrillas, plus air support too... Totally up my street!
I'll add it to the list...
Pacific first. Noted...

Re: GJS'44 - D-Day - June 10th - Awaiting received
Guys, Until we can get a full time GM to take over for me, even an a temporary basis, I'll try to keep GJS'44 going...
So, once Caen is confirmed completed, Commanders please forward your orders & bonuses to me...
Let's see what June 11th brings. Events look like they're about to kick off in a big way...
Battles where no new maps are required will be easy to setup.
And if you guys are ok with compromising, I'll create simpler/faster maps for any missing areas, to be replaced when I have more time?
Is everybody cool with that?
NEW WEATHER FORECAST
June 11th - Cloudy (fighter-bombers grounded)
June 12th - Cloudy
June 13th - Clear
June 14th - Clear
June 15th - Clear

That's the best news of this year!!! Thank you GL88!!! My job doesn't go well with this game, my girlfriend is sick of it ("get me out of here! Medic!!!") and even the dog whines but fighting these campaign battles and following the progress is just great!GottaLove88s wrote:Guys, Until we can get a full time GM to take over for me, even an a temporary basis, I'll try to keep GJS'44 going...
So thank you and I hope you can enjoy and find time to continue as GM (as long as possible).

Enough of this... Where are the battles to be fought!?! Bring me some allies to kill!
