After playing this and also suffering much higher losses than I anticipated, took me 18/18 on Colonel, I imagine that playing a second time and knowing where the forts are, would change things a lot. The only concern for me is that this is very tough for a tutorial and may put off first time players who could easily get slaughtered.
The increase in prestige for OS also takes getting used to and I have found myself running low on points in this and Sidi Barrani. Already changing my style to counter this and find it adds another challenge.

In other news...I have noticed that some maps, notably Sidi Barrani and Beda Fomm have wrongly aligned escarpments. Not sure if this has been noted, but this is my first beta and I'm having a lot of fun trying to be picky!!

Tarrak wrote:Played the scenario again in Beta 2. I still think the Italian forts need to be toned down a bit. Either reduce their strength to 8 or range by 1. At the moment they are plain deadly. Except of this the scenario seems fine to me.
Even the warships seemed relatively ineffective against them, maybe change at least one to a Battleship that can suppress and damage the forts without their shells bouncing off like mine did.

In all the other DLC's there was never nearly this many forts and they were not against earlier equipment like this that can only nibble at them. Still lots of fun trying though.

Bardia beta 2

Level: General
Ending pretige 3300
DV on turn 17/18

This one seemed to be noticeably easier, though my losses were still pretty high. It may be a good idea to remove one of the forts since this is supposed to be a tutorial mission still and our tools for dealing with them aren't very effective. Also, I still can't purchase any Aussie units, please let us buy units for the "minor"Allied nations!

6) Bardia - Beta 2
Level: Colonel
Prestige Begin: 4053 At Deployment after Str Inc/Pur: 3305 End: 2576
Result: Triumph 18/18

Brought core to full Strength (-209)
Purchased Engineer w/Bren Carrier (-285)
OS by 1 Inf, 3 Cruisers, Recon, 2 Art, Fighter, and Beaufighter (-254)

Comments: Tough and numerous forts. Loss Cruiser Mk.IV when it tried to flank an artillery and got in the sights of 2 forts. Ships were pretty ineffective. Glad to have a core engineer as the aux engineers were quickly depleted of strength. Resupplied and brought back to full force several units during play. I like the suppression of the unit during replacement. Makes you think a little more.

Beta2 - Colonel - DV at turn 14

The most challenging scenario so far. I wonder about the australian forces, they cannot be purchased and they are named "British engineer": should australian forces be purchasable or not? Good idea to gave them only 1 strength point, so they cannot be refilled. In Beta1 I wonder why their refresh is so expensive. All in all a nice scenario with italian opponents not victims.

- Usually you get 100 pp for a VH, but for capturing Bardia (15,7) (VH as well) I got only 50 pp
- A challenging scenario - no changes, please. 8)

Beta 3, Col

Purchases: 1x Matilda II
Upgrades: none
Reserve: 1x Hur I, 1x recon

Tough fighting to capture Bardia. With the units at hand not so easy but doable nonetheless.
No losses, DV 14/18, 2945PP

Bardia
Colonel Level
Starting Prestige: 2512
Triumph: 12/18
End prestige: 218

Purchases: 1 Beaufighter, 1 Matilda
Upgrades: Blenheim Mk1 - Wellington Mk.IC, Inf->Engineers, 2x25lbers -> 6inches + Matadors

I left my recon and one of my Hurricanes at home.

Losses: 1 Engineer (I'm not sure when in the scenario I lost it.

The first time I played this map on Lieutenant, I attacked up the road from the South. This time I attacked from the West and it went faster - there are fewer forts and mines in the way, plus it's a shorter trip.

I wish I had some indication in the briefing there would be no enemy air units, so I wouldn't have dragged along a fighter I didn't need.

Are we supposed to be unable to reinforce the Australian units? By the end of it, they were down to half strength or less and nearly useless.

EDIT: I forgot to mention - would support the suggestion, mentioned earlier, to upgrade the mission's light cruisers to either heavy cruisers or battleships - light cruisers can hardly do any damage to the Italian units, let alone the forts.

Bardia - Beta 3

Level: General
Prestige Begin: 4146 Deploy: 2943 End: 2874 Victory: +500
Triumph 18/18

Purchased Matilda

I revied my last replay and did about the same. The Matilda was better for me that the AT w/transport that I used last time.

I just read someone else approached from the West and it wnt faster. I will have to try that plan next time.

So finally things get tough. The rapid increase in size and difficulty could be to much for new players - for experienced ones, it's just starting to get interesting.

Concentrating my forces next to the street, there's not to much resistance. But - as stated before, i do have to much prestige. At the end of Bardia, i've got 5200 Points .. even after expensively resupplying some australians. This also is the first time, i've noticed that reduction to 10 after upgrading units. Dunno, if that makes sense. Will require some learning .. What i really enjoy is the notice of an upgrade in the units history.

Strange:
- the order of attack of the italians (as they finally do attack) is not optimal. A tankette attacked my pioneers, followed by attacks from those fortresses. Of course, that may have saved them aussies .. but ;).
- italians still do not repair? When will they start?
- My Cruisers Mk I proved to be effective against fortresses. Not what i've been expecting. But i like it a lot, that the Mark I has some advantages over the Mk IV. Just upgrading anything to the latest edition worked fine in earlier DLCs .. not anymore.
- on the other hand the ships proved almost worthless. The destroyer took some fire, thus saving the engineers, but the light cruisers did not do to much damage to the fortresses. Helped keeping AA down .. not a problem of the game .. just me, having to learn, what they are good for.
- as already postet, two italian units did not join battle. The AA to the right of Bardia could move to the town, causing problems for my bombers ... but it did not? Still, they seem to passive to me ..

Would not let me place newly purchased fighter at deployment even though this would have been unit 12/12....no available air placement hex after other three core air units placed (two fighters, one tactical bomber).
Auxiliary engineers would not reinforce (?). Much needed.
