Beta2 - Colonel - DV at turn 20

I replayed the scenario and was able to achieve a Triumph, hooray!!!
holmstedt wrote:But if i only pull out exactly 9 units core or aux makes no difference, i get Triumph and got to the Taranto Raid.
In my last attempt I had 11 units in my core (so two units stayed in stock), at this attempt I had only nine core units and evacuated only them.
OxygeneIV wrote:Hi!

I had the same problem as zappel.
In turn 20 all 10 units were evecuated, axis surrendered and crash to the main menue.

(Colonel, beta2)
Did you had more than nine core units, too?

This scenario got quite some changes. Some tweaks in balance, removing exit zones from sea as well as auxiliary fighter not to mix it with the core forces. Also lot of scripting was added in the case of disobeying orders. What would be useful in Beta 3 is to try to abuse this scenario, playing it the way it was not intended to be played just to see are there any holes left and how scripting is working. Put your imagination into it, not deploying core forces, evacuating them immediately, standing to fight, anything you can think of. Replays would be very useful as well.

Beta 3 version seems a little more of a challenge, so should prove to be a useful tutorial scenario.

Beta-3 - colonel level - triumph 20/20 - prestige: 1553 (start, afer purchase) / 2456 (end) + 350 (victory bonus)
purchases: hurricane mk i

Well, a very cahallenging mission now indeed. In fact, it is now a very challenging scenario because you have to weigh very carefully whether the recapture of a position is still profitable. Once I've collected a bollocking when I had not taken a defensive position in time. But it is still possible with careful consideration to reap the occasional prestige bonus. You have to watch the enemy's cruisers, the air force and the artillery to avoid unnecessary losses.
The scenario seems to be finished and the prestige rewards function properly. 8)

Beta 3 Col
Purchases: 1 Hur I, 1 infantry
Upgrades: none
In reserve: 1 recon
A big improvement. I got my italian bomber :) and the italians have a few ships of their own. Now it does feel wiser to follow orders quickly and retreat.

Italian Offensive
Difficulty: Colonel
Starting prestige: 1201

Purchased: Hurricane Mk I, British Infantry + Bren Carrier
Upgraded: all three of my Cruisers to Mk IVs

In my first playthrough on Lieutenant difficulty, I had brought along a 40mm Bofors and a 2pdr, but neither of them were very useful - the Bofors has crappy attack vs land units and the 2pdr is just barely better than a 25pdr in AT mode, but lacking the 25pdr's usefulness as artillery.

Triumph, turn 20/20
End Prestige: 501

This was the first scenario where I had to watch my prestige carefully - my Cruiser tanks took a beating. I made an ill-advised counter-attack with one of them, it got surrounded, and I had to use the others to bail him out. By the end, I had lost half the health of all my cruisers. Ouch.

Silly question, but: how do you take screenshots within the game and where are they saved?

I just use 'prt scr' (Print Screen key), than open up Paint, and use 'paste'.

I use a freeware screen shot program called "Greenshot" it's nice it does a great job of saving the photo plus you can save it in any format you want. You press CTRL -Print Screen and you hear a shutter click, then you add notation, etc to your photos too. I think CNET.com has it.

I notice the changes in Italian Offensive as well- you really have a fight on your hands. I had the same situation, I made a counter attack and then it got surrounded.

Italian Offensive - Beta 3

Level: General
Prestige Begin: 1718 At Delpoyment: 1122 End: 2271 Victory: +350
Results: Triumph 19/20

OS all units to 11-12
Puchased Hurricane I

Problems: First time through I thought there was an evacuation door for the ship... Not this time. Also, for some reason the submarine never attacked. It just bounced around a little.

I like this scenario for fighting withdrawals. On the first withdrawal, I falied to completely withdraw to the correct defense position. I got a message that I was not at the correct position and that I would be replaced as commander of this operation if I continued to ignore orders. That"s good...

I was able to easily complete taking alot of the enemy with me. I had a great opportunity to use the suurender tactics on many of them as they through themselves at my position. The enemy cruiser was defeated using my naval vessel and air. The air forces were easily handled by my corps.

Having abundant infantry in Panzer General or Panzer Corps, it's feeling strange to me, to have just one in the fourth scenario of AC. But that's not a problem of the game, but of the way, i'm playing it right now. What about new players? Will they do the same, encountering massive problems later on without trained infantry units? Perhaps, one or two core slots should be filled with inf. by the game to avoid this?

But: i really do have problems with this one. Orders are orders, as other people stated, but retreating without any need? Perhaps some of that italian units starting in the left part of the map should move into my line of sight so i do at least feel some pressure on my lines. With one additional AA and one fighter, there's no real threat. Only that submarine has been annoying. Not knowing where and when it would attack and knowing, not to have any countermeasures, it had me drawing back that cruiser .. sorry, my fault.

Over all: i like the idea of teaching new users a fighting withdrawal in an easy way. To me, this idea is relatively new to the Panzer Corps series .. or did i miss something? And: even without to much threat, one is feeling, that things are slowly getting serious.

Having > 3000 prestige after that scenario .. ooops?

Best Regards
Tom

I played on FM difficulty. I easily held back the Italians at each line. I like the fighting withdrawal scenario. I thought the orders were sufficient in detail and timing.

I think the British light cruiser was a strong unit in this battle. I also noticed that the Italians had a cruiser and a sub. The only one I had to deal with was the cruiser, I didn't even notice they had a sub until I saw it in the replay. If AI utilized those two naval units against the British naval threat (the sub would have been enough to force the cruiser to retreat), that British naval threat could have been neutralized. With the British cruiser neutralized, the Italian cruiser could have wreaked havoc on British artillery behind the lines. With the British artillery destroyed or severely weakened it would have been much harder to hold the line. The range on the Italian cruiser would easily reached almost any British units due to the choke point effect the map provided. If Brit units were moved outta range to avoid these bombardments it would cause severe disruption to an effective defense of each line.

Playing on Field Marshall difficulty I would expect that every enemy unit would be actively participating in the action...this would include naval units as well as the heavy artillery the Italians possess.

:?: I also have a question on the replay feature. Is this just included in the beta, or will it be included in final product? I really like the feature. I would just like to be able to pause it, stop it with more ease and be able to gather info from units participating in the battle i.e. click on unit to bring up unit menu with that units statistics, heroes etc.

Playing with french Layout, I noticed that medals names and attributions ('palms", etc.) seem not to be filled.

As one of my units got a medal, I noticed the problem as is :
Empty medal name and attributes fields.

Beta 3
FM Triumph.

OK for a tutorial scenario, not very hard.
I appreciated the in mission orders. tried to disobey, and now after a warning you 'll immediately loose without waiting for turn 19. You can loose on something like turn 6 if you try to stand your initial positions without falling back.

I think this is good, as in GC East whatever the order you can go anywhere, including areas which the briefing expressly forbid.
It helps support the narrative of the briefing, however in this particular scenario it's a bit mechanical, which is OK for a tutorial.

I used only strength 10 units, and I noticed the Italians attacked even if I had a supporting artilllery, Which seems a good thing to me.

Disobeying orders will result in a loss, however you can twist things your own way.
I tried to push westward to capture the 2 italians airfields, to get some extra pp. To avoid loosing from not following the orders, right on turn 1, I send an armored car, eastward to capture the fallback positions objectives. You don't need to have a unit in each objective hexs, you merely have to change the control flag of the hexs before the various time limits. So a single unit is enough, you can even start to take control of further east positions before being instructed to do so.

In the end I succeeded to capture the 2 airfields, but I was a bit short on time to exit my units all the way back, actually I needed 25 turns (5 more than allowed) to fully exit to fulfill the Victory conditions. With practice I might reduce the turns taken by one or two. Yet there will probably not enough time to complete the withdrawal within the 20 given turns, So it's more theoretical than anything else, yet the possibility is open for those who dare try.

An enjoyable scenario. I bought 2 infantry, no upgrades. I got a message not to disobey orders when I failed to hold a position. The sub never attacked, in fact I didn't know there was a sub until watching the replay. I also never used my battleship. I managed a victory on colonel.

The english text is
"For outstanding service the 11th Hussars, was awarded
with the Distinguished Conduct Medal"

In French it should read,
"Pour service exceptionnel, le 11 ème Hussard reçoit la
Médaille pour conduite distinguée"

Note that:
- As it is a english medal, it would be more convenient to leave the medal name in english.
- In french we either say, the more formal "le 11ème régiment de Hussards (plural), or more commonly, le 11ème Hussard (singular)
