Resolution problems on 42' LED TV

Post by timek28 »

Hi all.

I've been playing PzC for a while now on mine 42' inch LG LED TV. It is really a great experience. I play it in HD (1920*1080).

However from the beginning I have a problem with lowest part of the screen. It seems somehow "cut off". I am unable to see buttons
for continuing mission after briefing. I'm also unable to select strategic bombers in buying menu, and I cannot see unit stats that are on bottom of the screen (naval attack for example which is not insignificant).

I found a way to circumvent this buy pressing up and down, tab and space. However I'm not always sure what I selected in this way.

Is there a way to fix this? ( I wouldn't play in lower resolution if that is the answer).

Also for some reason when I pull mouse down pop up task bar of windows appears, as if game is in windowed mode (although it is in full-screen).

I have no experience with using TVs as computer monitors so i am just guessing here but double check please if your game is really running in full screen mode. It may still be set to windowed mode and just due to big enough resolution look like full screen. Just press Escape while playing Panzer Corps and check if the windowed checkbox is not ticked.

Tarrak, no it is not in windowed mode. I looked and there is no check on that option...

I'm wondering what it may be...

Then try playing in windowed mode and check if there's any difference. :)

timek, how is the image sent to the TV? Is is trough special software/drivers? My first idea would be to change the game resolution and see if this makes a difference. If the display uses special software, try to find a setting to display the image on the TV without any 'auto-sizing' or similar things that would influence resolution or aspect ratio.

My last experiments with this sort of thing were too long ago to be of much help, but I remember that I had a grahpics card that just sent a 'duplicate' signal to the TV, without any changes. But a friend of mine had a 'TV' card, which used additional software. This software 'overruled' certain program settings, leading to all kinds of odd issues (stretched images, wide-screen not properly recognized).

Similarly, and one of these issues was when a program was started in a certain resolution (say the menu was 800x600), but the game itself was set for 1024x768. This caused parts of the screen not being displayed in a similar manner as you describe. So that's were my guess comes from.

I found the problem. It happens because of custom size DPI for larger system fonts. I increased DPI size to 200% of original in order to be able to see letters from 3 meters away on my couch, and while this doesn't create problems in other games here apparently it does. Setting back DPI to 100% solved the issue but everything was too small to read, so I went back to 200%. The problem is not that big as I'm able to navigate through menu even without seeing everything. BTW. decreasing resolution made things even worse :)

That makes sense. Eventually, I would get there, but it would take some time. :P
