So how's it going on your end GL88's? Do you have what you need to make the buildings you need? I say you use the Building format for either Operation SeaLion or Husky and even Market Garden. Still looking how to get those tanks on the beachhead.

Brits should have Commandos and Some Rangers must be present
It would be great to have "Commando" units.

The Brit Commandos and U.S. Rangers at Dieppe worked extremely closely together/side-by-side. I believe they (Rangers and Commandos) were practically integrated units at the squad or platoon levels. The Ranger contingent was relatively small.

BTW: the Rangers who worked with the Commandos in the Dieppe Raid wouldn't be equipped like the Rangers in the BA Normandy and Husky scenarios.

I'm about to start reading a book about the Rangers participation at the Dieppe Raid ("Dieppe Rangers" I think it's called).

Anyway, I'll be happy to contribute "Dieppe Raid" specific info about the participating Commando/Ranger units, equipment, weapons and missions etc. No strings attached or expectations about inclusion or use in your project. just there if you want to consider inclusion etc.

Lemme know,

cheers,

Thomas

Thanks Thomas. We'll be lucky to have you onboard!

FYI I've just started reading Tragedy at Dieppe: Operation Jubilee by a Canadian war historian called Zuilke. I get the impression that US Rangers were formed as a direct result of their involvement at Dieppe... How cool is that? 8)

" A new element Mountbatten introduced was the inclusion of fifty American Rangers. American interest in commando operations had led to the tall Texan, Brig Truscott, and a small team being posted to [Dieppe planning] Combined Operations on May 17, 1942. Nine days later, Truscott suggested the formation of a purely American unit for raiding to the US Chief of Staff Gen George Marshall, calling them Rangers after a band of irregulars who fought during the French-Indian wars. The 1st US Ranger Battalion was activated on June 19, 1942 at Carrickfergus, Ireland. It consisted of 29 officers and 575 men. On July 25th, Truscott ordered 1st Rangers to report to commando HQ in Scotland to begin combined ops training. For 'reasons of politics and prestige' Roosevelt wanted a US 'military contingent' to participate [in Dieppe]. However, the British General Staff argued that 'the few American units in Britain at that time were green troops' [so fifty Rangers were chosen as a compromise]."

Thanks LM, Had/have some long/late shifts last weekend/this week, so it's slowing up a little after a mad map rush... Am trying to read up in era, and searching around for photos of Dieppe streets and buildings, to best approximate... Chateau Dieppe is proving harder than anticipated. It's got those rounded towers with conical roofs (not as easy at more Norman style castle in Caen). Am doing best efforts, mixing church styles and desert forts... It will be convincing enough, so long as folks concentrate on battles rather than architecture!

Anyone got any creative ideas how to mix BA's various buildings to make a tobacco factory...??
I can't think of any objects that look like a tall chimney pipe?

Hard to do so there isn't any buildings with tall chimneys. But you can use a cluster of Operation Husky Buildings (Houses unfortunately). That's your best bet right now
