I just noticed from your results chart how big the armies are for 600pts. Usually over 60pts, sometimes nearly 80pts - lots of skirmishers, I presume. Maybe 500pts might help and you can have very interesting games with 400pts. I also read that Eric allowed 3 weeks for each round so that is plenty of time really but by its very nature the different time-zone issue is very considerable in this type of tournament. I think smaller armies might be worth discussing among the mainstays of your group. Was the Companions Cup the first ever tournament for FOG then?hidde wrote:Looking over the format for CC is certainly an option for whomever will run it in the future.
The choices before each round isn't what caused the problems though, sloow play during the games is.
And CC started well before LOEG...also, it's only three games so shouldn't really be a problem whatever else is going on.
I think it's a good idea to have in mind what's going on when you wish to start a tourny but that's probably not the biggest problem.
Not sure what is...

LOEG was first. It even started with a qualification season before season 1. I think we're about 10 players from back then still playing in the league.
CC came later and it was Morbios idea. He ran it the first three times...but I came up with the name

The choosing of the amies to fight, aligned with the terrain and who leads each army is what makes the Companions Cup different from other competitions. So I'd hate to see this disappear. More importantly, as Anders' states, it isn't the part that is a significant delay, it's the speed of play.

Don't worry, Morbio. How the Companions Cup is organised really has nothing to do with me as I am not one of the regular players in the tournament.Morbio wrote:The choosing of the amies to fight, aligned with the terrain and who leads each army is what makes the Companions Cup different from other competitions. More generally though, I am quite interested in how best to organise things like these various FOG competitions. I suspect that because we are all really "internet buddies" who have never met each other in real life, then for some of us that basic human solidarity of "doing unto others as you would have done to you" is not as well developed as it might be when we go online. Some people will say things like, "If I am getting fed up with a game or a competition then I will just stop playing" without appreciating that it will affect other people who have spent time and effort organising and playing in that particular competition. I expect that an academic has written an obscure paper on it somewhere!

Of course, organisers should not forget that "real life" can intervene and prevent people from fulfilling their gaming commitments on occasions. I don't think that much can be done about this other than having clear adjudication rules in place where it happens. For the very few "serial offenders" that we encounter then I think ultimately that temporary, then permanent, exclusion is the only way to deal with them.
