Panzer corps 39-45 DCL part 2

Post by kevini1000 »

I decided to restart sort of. I feel my core build of mix of units was good but could be stronger.

I'm now starting the 4th scenario.

I have 2 regular infantry, 1 mountain infantry, 1 pioneer, 1 SS Infantry and 1 SS Mtn Infantry.

3 Panzer 38 A t models, 1 recon and 1 88 flak.

3 artillery.

1 FTR, 2 Stuka and 1 ME 110 tac air.

I think I will most likely stay with just 6 infantry through out. I like having recon units but may only add 1. I might add 1 more flak 88 and perhaps some of the other sp AA units but no more than 1 or 2 tops. If I pick at units then they will have to be sp type. Any artillery I have will have to be sp type as well. Most likely eventually as many as 6 total fighters. I could most likely stand to eventually have more strat and tac type bombers. My old core group had 3 stukas, 3 Me 410's and 2 strat bombers. I think this is a fair number and good balance but I might worry in some scenarios about poor weather.

Everything else will be tanks and more tanks.

Well the first iteration of Rudel actually has some pretty severe negative stats. Historically, he was only a recon pilot for the first few years of the war after all. However if you're able to find access his second iteration, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised! :)

I think I will end up with about the same core units as before. The hero units might mean that I don't have to purchase some.

My Infantry grows till 1941/42 and THEN it dies... and never gets properly replaced.

lets see, three divisions, 2 regiments each, 2 platoons each... thats 12, plus 3 pioneers...15, plot kradschützen.. I think I use 17 currently? not all a once yet, I currently have only 2 divisions deployed I think but my core has 17 infantry.

I'm up to the final scenario for 1940.

My current core

8 infantry of all types. 3 of which are SS. I got plenty of +1 movement heros

1 recon

4 towed artillery

3 fighters 2 stuka 2 me 110 and 1 strat bomber

1 88 at/AA gun

3 panzer 3
2 panzer 4

For my additional unit I'm thinking of adding either and artillery unit, bomber or additional panzer 4. Not sure yet

Ok so I'm starting the 2nd scenario for 1941, the Metaxas line.

So my infantry breakdown after some reorganizing.

2 Regular Infantry, 1 Regular Grenadier with a +3 move hero, 1 Regular Mountain Infantry with a +1 move hero, 1 Regular pioneer with a +1 move hero, 2 SS Grenadiers with +1 move hero's and 1 SS mountain infantry.

I've gotten lucky on getting movement bonus hero's so I feel this arrangement helps to take full advantage of it. I feel this is a nice balance.

Panzers

3 regular Panzer IIIH, 1 SS Panzer IIIH and 2 Regular Panzer IVE. I like this balance.

1 recon

1 88 AA/AT

Artillery

4 towed artillery of the heaviest variety.

1 Sturm Panzer SP Artillery

1 Stug3b SP Artillery I love this one

I was using just towed artillery up until just lately but I need the mobile artillery to keep up with the advance especially once the scenarios with Russia begin.

Air Force

4 bf 109 f's

2 Ju87 Stuka

2 bf 110d

1 Do217E.

I added another fighter going into the Metaxas line. I hope to have it up to 2 stars by Minks 41.

Overall I like the breakdown and overall balance of my core units. 27 regular units plus 4 SS. I'll have to think hard about what 2 units to add for Minsk 41.

Well for Minsk 41 I added a 88AA/AT gun and 1 motorcycle infantry recon type as I call it. These things are great. I might buy 1 more later on.

I finished the GC East 1941. going to play around in the west for a while then come back and play in the east. My core is experienced powerful veterans with plenty of hero units. My total number infantry units did grow to 10 btw. So I'm skimping out completely.
