Re: Sudden Death Rise of Rome Army selections and Results
round 3 result:
flatsix (Later Macedonian) 30/43 vs iandavidsmith (Armenians) 46/45
For much of the game break points were almost dead even. Ian sent in his running dog lackey Romans to break the Macedonian center. I met this attack with a large pike block. Initially it looked as though the Roman thugs and convicts might prevail, but the pikes slowly gained the advantage. Ian summed it up best in mid-game, "I need more Romans". Once the Roman attack was defeated, the situation went downhill for the Armenians and the Macedonians prevailed. Very well played, Ian. Good luck in coming up through the double-elim bracket. Maybe we'll meet again in the final.

Re: Sudden Death Rise of Rome Army selections and Results
Carthage (Morbio) 13/44 v 41/41 Macedonia (Cromlechi)
Macedonia gained an early lead 7-0 as it chased away the Carthage cavalry and light horse, but the early success soon disappeared as the strung-out army advanced to the Carthage foot-troops piecemeal and were annihilated. Special mention should go to Alexander's sub-commander who while being beset on all sides (6 melee attacks!) held his fragmented unit together for a complete turn!

Chris and Tom (aka batesmotel & bagration)
How goes your game? I'm hoping to hear from Chris.
I keep asking Tom for news but I figure he's lying.
Enquiring minds want to know.

Re: Sudden Death Rise of Rome Army selections and Results
Well its finally over. After getting stuck in a time warp Parthians rout the Bosporans
uheng (Prathian) 22/36 def Lydianed (Bosporans) 40/40.
Nothing subtle about this game, both sides lined up on open ground and thundered toward each other. Impact was about even, but the heavier armor of the cats shortly overwhelmed the Bosphoran Lancers. Once the Bosporan cavalry line broke the Parthians just had to clean up the mess.
Thanks for the game Lydianed.

bagration1812 (LRR-Brutus and Cassius) 37/37
batesmotel34 (Bosporan(mid)) 44/50
Caesar has been avenged! Despite the lanced armed pride of the Bosporan army making little impression on the Roman legionaries and cataphracts, in the end Brutus and Cassius succumbed to the death of a thousand cuts from the Bosporan lights and horse archers. Thanks for a great game.

Re: Sudden Death Rise of Rome Army selections and Results
batesmotel (Bosporan-mid) 33/53
Flatsix518 (Later Macedonian) 47/47
The pikes succumbed to the combination of softening up from the Bosporan horse archers and skirmishers and then got to stretched out in the face of the Bosporan maneuvering to get the lancers into position. A clever Macedonian ambush with Illyrian MF waited a bit too long to pop out in the Bosporan flanking maneuver so ended up not getting into the game. They were just about in position to do so at the end.
John, thanks for a fun game.
