Re: Britcon 2013
Well the swiss were a disaster last year and I agree that they are much better on a small table, however it doesn't stop people sitting in terrain which is an expected frustration.
My preference is always to play early period the only bonus to medieval is that I might get to play Dave R which is always fun. Travelling all that way to play like a muppet is no fun. The temptation to play medieval is also Pete's comment that I must be a bunny because of my placing in medieval.

Re: Britcon 2013
Well I think I can lay claim to that at last year's Britcon. I think Phil's words (in typically understated British style) were, "Stephen. You are moving very fust." My heavy foot managed to push a few of his Hungarian BGs off the back edge of the table!timmy1 wrote:As for Phil, if ever there is someone who beats his up and at 'em approach I don't want to be on the receiving end...

I continued my play to win approach against two Romans but came off second best. The points I gave him probably allowed Alan Cuttner to come first. If I'd played both those games not to lose, I would have finished several placings higher; perhaps in the top five. Where's the fun in that?
Re: Britcon 2013
Technically, it was Phil who said everybody playing in the Medieval period was a bunny.SDnz wrote:Well the swiss were a disaster last year and I agree that they are much better on a small table, however it doesn't stop people sitting in terrain which is an expected frustration.

But i'm hoping that we'll play this year after missing each other last year. The smaller table is an issue though, no idea what I'm going to use yet!

As Dave R has noted - that wasn't me - I would never be so insensitive. The temptation to play medieval is also Pete's comment that I must be a bunny because of my placing in medieval.

Again, technically i never said shaun wasn't a bunny, just that it was phil rather than pete who actually stated as such.philqw78 wrote:Dave and pete both use Fairy Liquid.

Re: Britcon 2013
I suspect the Swiss will be better under V2. HF are a little more able to get to grips now - to the extent that I've been able to bring out the Hoplite version of the Early Persians. Still if you're in the early period we might draw each other.SDnz wrote:Well the swiss were a disaster last year and I agree that they are much better on a small table, however it doesn't stop people sitting in terrain which is an expected frustration.

Kudos for getting "Dave R" and "muppet" in the same paragraph.

Attention Mr Muppett (I mean Ruddock)
Looks like I may be able to come over to Britcon this year - I am considering sending my army over rather than carrying it (as may plan a few stops between Aus and UK) - if so could I send it to you to be collected the week of the comp?
regards

Re: Britcon 2013
Just had a quick look at the BHGS website - only 10 places left for Medieval and 11 for Ancients.
The vast majority of players have opted to play all 6 games.
And it looks like we will see the return of Simon Hall which is excellent! The downside is that he is playing in the Medieval period which will be a challenge for the rest of us. Looks like a very strong field in the late period.
Looking forward to it - just got to decide what to bring - I'm not sure the Ottomans or Moldavians will work on a small table?
