It is in the book being developed for the Ottoman era. A greatmix of armies in this period including steppe armies and medieval armies that faced them.

A good start will be 2 or 3 BG of the classic Knights each of 4 bases and 2-3 turcopole LH BGs of 4 bases each. This is central to the army however else you supplement it. Best not say much more at this stage though as its not published yet.

As an aside, it has been used in a number of beta test games and it does very nicely so if you like the history and figures start collecting and painting would be my advice.

Are the Teuts going to be forced to buy kneches (Reg CvI in DBMspeak), and what would those be?

No, they are not compulsary but as they are mounted crossbowmen and not that shabby I suspect that most Teutonic armies will have them.

No, they are not compulsary but as they are mounted crossbowmen and not that shabby I suspect that most Teutonic armies will have them.
Mounted crossbow don't get the raw deal that they do in DBM.
They are usually cavalry, average, protected/armoured, crossbow, sword.
Useful for shooting/evading against knights, and also good against MF in the open, for charging flanks, and for keeping LH at bay.
Best used in BGs of 4.

I think these guys are my favorite part of the med german beta list. Quite a useful but peculiar BG.

The bulk of the foot are defensive spearmen or crossbow.

Skilled swordsmen are not a feature of many armies, so far I can only think of Roman style legionaries, Gladiators and Medieval sword and buckler men. There will probably be more eventually but to be honest most of the time swordsman is enough. Spears don't get sword, they get spear at impact and spear in melee.

Steady spear are better than sword, disrupted or disordered spear are equal to sword and fragmented spear are worse than sword. It does make for interesting tussles between sword and spear troops.

As it stands, the list notes don't say they can dismount

The mounted arm of this army has grown/improved since DBM, allowing you up to 28 bases of knightly types (excluding commanders)... remembering that this is subject to change!

Which club in Melbourne is thinking of a tourney in March/April?

Mounted knights are good enough in FoG that you won't want to dismount them often anyway, particularly as troops can only dismount at deployment time. Dismounting just isn't the "utility" feature that it is in DBM. In my test games I have hardly ever dismounted troops that the list permits to dismount.

Ditto. I found that my Mongols stay firmly on their horse. Why give up a perfectly serviceable escape vehicle?

Is your theory: "Is white the hardest colour to paint well?"

LOL :D , yeah that is my Everest .

I'm thinking undercoat black , white possibly drybrush , possibly block painted . Red or yellow secondary colour to separate units , chainmail ,weak black wash ....let you know when I do a sample

That sounds good.

I was thinking: White primer, heavy wash of black (heavy enough to fill crevices but partially show white through on the highlights) then block paint.

I wonder which would work better.

(Trying to avoid the highlighting phase).
