Trade & Treachery Italian States

Post by MatteoPasi »

In the list its specified that the number of gendarmes must be higher or equal to "cavalry and light horses " .... what does it means ? It must be higher to the sum of Cv and LH or higher to the number of each one ?
Thanks :D

It means that the sum of LH and Cav BGs may not be higher than the number of Gendarme BGs.

I'm thinking about trying this list in 28/29 may italian competition, the question is : have you ever tried / seen an army of trade & trachery apart from the Swiss in an Open competition ? how does they go ? there is somo possibility to field Swedish and later armies or its a nomatch battle ?

The only other one that I've seen used successfully in Open tournaments is the Huguenots, used as a mostly mounted army (No Lanquesnets or Swiss).

Matteo,

I've used the Papal States variant of the Italian State list in an open. didn't win the open (but then, I never do) but won my share and was competative in every game. Found that my units of 8 arquebus have nothing to fear from conventional pike and shot. Gendarmes are a challenge against any impact pistol horse, but 16-base kiels have little to fear from anything.

Good luck.

I cant field Papal, Valentino Borgia's armies sieged my city (Faenza) ending our indipendence and italians are very unkind to forget any torts :)

My list comprise:
2*4 bases Gendarmes
2*4 bases Mounted Xbow LH
1*4 bases Mounted Carbine LH
1*4 bases Stradiotti LH
3*8 bases Arquebusiers MF
1 Heavy Artillery battery
1 Medium Artillery battery
2*14 bases armoured Keils
1*6 bases LF with Xbow (poor)
1*6 bases MF with Xbow (poor)

Matteo,

Not sure that list is legal. Too many LH BGs in relation to gendarme BGs. If memory serves the total of CV and LH BGs cannot be greater than the number of Gendarme BGs.

I'm assuming this is the Italian Wars Venetian list rather than Italian States as that does not have a Venetian option.

The Venetian list does not have an option for LF with crossbow.

How many points is this tournament?

Yee, you are right : Italian Wars Venetian with Milanese allied (one of the gendarmese and one of the mounted xbow) from Italian States list.
Thanks: You spotted an error ! LF xbow upgraded to bow and LH xbow from Armoured to Unarmoured :)
The tournament its at 800 pt.

Ah, Venetians. I've run them too - always with a Swiss keil. But Venetians aren't "real" Italians, are they
