Roman Triarii

Probably too late now, but shouldn't republican Roman Triarii be defensive spear?

After all, they lurked at the back and hardly, if ever, attacked anyone as far as I know.

This was discussed and the conclusion was that there is no reason to suppose that when they came to fight that they would behave differently from other similar spearmen.
