The Medes Campaign

The following takes place in January 2500 BC...
Somewhere in Hasanlu...

It was night. "Chilly, but at least the moon is shining" Shurgi-Resh-Ishi thought to himself and hurried down the streets. There was nobody except Shurgi-Resh-Ishi there. "I have to get there in time," he thought. "it would be too embarrassing if I was late."

Moments later...

Shurgi-Resh-Ishi opened the door to the secret war room. "Dark." he thought. "Why is nobody here?" He stepped in carefully, and suddenly he was grabbed and thrown to the floor.
"Who are you?" said a man, and Shurgi-Resh-Ishi felt a blade against his neck.
"I am your ruler, General Shamshi." he said calmly. This had happened some times before, and Shurgi-Resh-Ishi was not surprised. He stood up and went towards his chair.
General Shamshi lit a torch and said "Igigi-Usur! You can come now, the Great Dictator is here!"
A man entered the room "Greetings, Dictator. I am Igigi-Usur, we haven't met, but I will do anything for the Nation. According to our mappers, this is what the world looks like." he said and showed a piece of parchment to Shurgi-Resh-Ishi. "Have you got any more requests for them?"



Shurgi-Resh-Ishi looked happy "So the world is not any bigger than that?"
"According to our mappers, no that is the whole world." Igigi said. "Well? Any more requests?"
"No they're probably all to old for another trip like this last one..." Shurgi-Resh-Ishi said and shook his head. "On to the important matters, now. General Shamshi!"
"Yes, my lord?" The General said and saluted.
"You will travel to Kariri and build an army there, understood?"
"It will be done, my lord!" General Shamshi saluted again.
"And you, Igigi-Usur?" Shurgi-Resh-Ishi said and turned his head.
Igigi nodded. "What should I do?"
"You will take care of production here in Hasanlu!"
"Of course, Great Dictator." Igigi bowed.
"And you will both meet me here next year!" Shurgi-Resh-Ishi said and stood up. "You can go now."
General Shamshi hurried away and Igigi followed slowly. Shurgi-Resh-Ishi waited for them both to leave, then he left as well.

The following takes place in January 2499 BC...
Hasanlu...

Shurgi-Resh-Ishi was walking down the streets, just like last year, looking for the secret war room. "It has to be here somewhere..." Shurgi-Resh-Ishi kept walking around that area until General Shamshi saw him.
"My lord, it's over here!" The General said "We're lucky it's night, otherwise people would see us." Genaral Shamshi opened the door to an empty house and went down to the cellar. Shurgi-Resh-Ishi followed. "Lord Igigi-Usur is already here, he will be happy to see you, it seems like he's had trouble." The General said while opening a heavy door.
Shurgi-Resh-Ishi went in and saw Igigi-Usur "Now, what's the big problem?"
"Look, sir." Igigi said and showed the old map.


"I've sent our diplomats to the countries painted with this color." Igigi said and pointed on 3 countries on the map. "I can't say they trust us, but I don't think they will attack."
"Who would attack us?" General Shamshi said.
"Our neighbors." Shurgi-Resh-Ishi said "I trust you have built an army by now, General?"
"Actually, not." The General said "I had trouble, we never got those resources we needed."
"Igigi!" Shurgi-Resh-Ishi shouted "Make sure those resources get there as soon as possible!"
"It will be done, my lord!" Igigi-Usur said and decided to change the subject "I have been trading with Skythian merchants, they really are idiots, making such deals..."
"I'm sure they are, I don't care, just get those bricks over to Kariri!" Shurgi-Resh-Ishi said "When we have our army... We will conquer the world."
"Yes my lord!" General Shamshi said and saluted.
"Igigi-Usur, you can leave now." Shurgi-Resh-Ishi said "Remember to come next year!"
Igigi-Usur walked out the door without looking back. "I will, Great Dictator." he said before closing the door behind him.

And so the General and Shurgi-Resh-Ishi moved figurines around on the map while discussing military strategies for the rest of the night.

The following takes place in January 2498 BC...
Hasanlu...

Shurgi-Resh-Ishi opened the door to the secret war room. This time the meeting was early in the morning, the past 2 years the meeting had always been at night. "No trouble finding it this year." He thought to himself and looked around. "Is there anybody here?" He said. Nobody answered. Shurgi-Resh-Ishi sat down and grabbed a glass of clean water.

Moments later...

General Shamshi and Igigi-Usur came in, and after them came a fat man wearing the finest clothes available.
"Greetings, Dictator." General Shamshi said. "This man" he pointed at the fat man."is the richest merchant in Kariri, he practically controls the town, and he is here because he wants to help out."
The fat merchant bowed. "I am Sargon, Great Dictator, and I want to donate some of my best horses to the state." Sargon looked up again, straight into Shurgi-Resh-Ishi's eyes. "But only if you employ me to serve the state!"
Shurgi-Resh-Ishi sighed. "What can you do?"
"I want to help your researchers, my men know how to build good wagons and yours do not!" Sargon almost shouted. "Will you employ me?"
"Okay, you can help." Shurgi-Resh-Ishi said.
"Thank you, Great Dictator!" Sargon said and bowed again. "You will not be disappointed."
Shurgi-Resh-Ishi turned towards the General and Igigi-Usur. "We can't show our secret war room to just anyone, remember that." He said. "Now, General, is the army ready?"
"Almost, Great Dictator, we have set up drills and formations and we expect to have a full battle-ready army in one month." The General said. "I will take command of the army myself, if that is okay with you?"

Shurgi-Resh-Ishi was surprised. "Yes that is fine, just make sure you stay alive, most of our officers are lousy. And I don't want to promote one of them if you can't keep yourself alive."
General Shamshi bowed.
Shurgi-Resh-Ishi turned towards Igigi-Usur. "Have you got any news, Igigi?"
"According to our scouts, this is the situation." Igigi said and pulled out a map from one of his sleeves.


"I see the Makkans have expanded their territory..." Shurgi-Resh-Ishi said and looked towards the General. "We should do the same, do you think the Lullubi or those nameless independent citystates are good targets?"
"I think both of them are good targets," Shamshi replied and finally sat down. Sargon and Igigi also sat down when they saw the General doing it. "before next year we should have an army in Ulkhu as well, we could move that army to the east while my army of skirmishers wipe out the Lullubi."
"Sounds good to me." Shurgi-Resh-Ishi said. "Igigi-Usur, you will travel to Ulkhu and get that army moving!"
"It will be done, Great Dictator." Igigi said while bowing. "Any more orders?"
"No. You can go."
Igigi-Usur grabbed his map and walked out the door.
"Can I go as well?" Sargon said. "I know where your researchers are, I can send my men from Kariri to them."
"Yes, you can go," Shurgi-Resh-Ishi said and pointed at General Shamshi. "and you can go too, you know what to do."
"Yes, Great Dictator" Sargon and Shamshi said almost at the same time and walked out. Shurgi-Resh-Ishi followed.
