Where are the early German Tribes?

Post by Galadrin »

I'm considering doing an early German warband (the kind that fought the Celts and the Romans in and around the time of Caesar). What book covers this army list?

Aww, that's officially forever! I guess I'll just sit on my hands until June or July when it's due out.

Why wait? You should be able to approximate an army by converting the old DBM German list for friendly games.

They had a sample German army list with the Beta test rules.

Greetings

I haven't got the Beta do the below does not draw from any existing list. Looking at what other (non FoG) lists have done the vast bulk of the army will be foot warriors - in FoG I imagine in largish BGs. DBM indicated that Cherusci or Batavi might be loose order (so MF in FoG) with others close (HF).

Continuing to use DBM/Warrior lists as a basis there might be 1-2 foot skimrisher BG with the option of having 1-2 BG of cavalry, possibly a BG of LF archers and the option of a wagon laager. Once you get to specifics I imagine there would be lots of other options.

Regards
Edward

Okay, based on the DBM list and converting it I'm guessing something like:

Lots of warbands - impact HF. 8-12 bases, with the option to use Batavians/Cherusci as MF instead.

1-2 BG of cavalry (4-6 bases each).

some foot archers and foot javelinmen (in BGs of six to eight) - perhaps 1 BG of archers and a max of 2 BG of javelins.

Cavalry would be superior. Everything else average. Possibly an option to upgrade Chatti foot to superior.

Option to take a Batavian ally, with troops equiped as Roman auxilia
