To clear up some confusion about the older Panzer General series and their bonus reward systems, PG I had nothing, but in PG II the player could be rewarded with a unit becoming available much sooner; this depended on performance and chance, they were called 'prototypes'.

Then there was the later Panzer General 3D Assault, which had several bonus systems: after a Major Victory (DV in PzC) you were awarded extra 'core slots'. These core slots could be used to deploy a unit or attach an officer (like a 'leader' in PG II) to a unit, these officers could grant special abilities to the unit and were transferable.
Also, you could invest in promoting these officers with 'promotion points' you earned during the battles, making more special abilities available but if an officer reached a higher level through assigning these promotion points he used up more core slots when assigning him to a unit.

It would be pretty cool to see a system of officer promotion in Panzer Corps.

I woulds also like the ability to move heroes at least within a specific unit class.

Although I have no interest in a research or technology tree to actively participate in, the idea of actively developing my officers is sort of tempting. I don't think it should be overly detailed or complex, after all, the selling point of PzC is the rock, paper, scissors.

I wasn't aware the later PzG series did this. They lost me around People's General when virtually every unit had a ranged attack. I enjoy that fact that only artillery and AAA have ranged attacks. But around the time of People's General, practically everything was ranged... artillery, AAA, all tanks (whether artillery or not), helicopters, most aircraft. I understand that is how technology evolved to modern warfare with range and rockets, but I don't want it in my Panzer General series.

Although I do admit I really enjoyed Fantasy General and Star General. Fantasy General was pretty much exactly the same as Panzer, just with fantasy units. Star General was roughly the same concept, but with space warfare combined with land warfare.

I'd like to see prototypes in PzC, provided you could have only 1-2 of them at a time. This way they would just add some flavour. But if we talk about choice and randomization, I'd prefer to get a choice between 2 random heroes instead of getting one with no choice.

We already have something similar to prototypes.

There are several maps that reward the player with a bonus unit.

Receiving a new unit that is not available to build yet gives the player an advantage. The AI is weak. We don't need any more benefits to make the game easier.

In the PG series you got a big bonus if you received an new unit that wasn't available.

So, I don't like any ideas that make the game easier.

I also don't think a research tree is applicable to this type of game. Research is more for grand strategy games.
