Dream Mod!

MY Ideal game would be set up a bit like Rome Total War where thee strategic level would be as it is in CEaW but when battles are initiated it gives the option to auto battle or lead in the field. If you click lead in the field you get a setup similar to Panzer general or even better like Combat Mission. What do you guys think?

Something like Combat Mission would be a nightmare...CM is a tactical game and the battles depicted in that game are company size engagements. You couldn´t simulate the kind of battles on CEAW that way. It wouldn´t work. Too complex.

On the other hand a "Panzer General" combat could work. For example a CEAW infantry unit could be...let´s see...1 corps = 2 divisions = 6 regiments. Let´s stop at this level. 6 infantry units. You could throw one artillery regiment, another unit...maybe an antitank unit too, depending on the tech level. You could have an small engagement like PG.

Yep, it could work but...it is worth the effort? Think of Russian Front, the huge amount of battles each turn...the time you´ll expend fighting battles...and the results (at strategical level) would be exactly the same as if you make an attack like in CEAW as it is now. It could be fun to play a battle but i doubt it could be useful. No matter how well you could play, the result of each engagement would be more or less the same. The enemy would lose some units, you too...you spent 15 minutes to get to the same point. Useless.

The kind of game you mention could work only if focused on a smaller scale (in time and space). Think of Battle of the Bulge, Operation Winter Storm, D-Day...
