Unexplained surredern of France

Post by Man0lo »

Hey CEAW mates! I faced a really weird issue about the game. I was playing as Allied and in July of 1940 ... France suddenly surrendered to Germany without Paris being conquered. Why did that happen? The only explanation I can give is that France had (-38) production points... Is this true?
Thanx a lot!

PP has nothing to do with surrender. As far as I know an Axis unit doesn't have to be in Paris for France to surrender; it just has to not have an Allied unit there.
In spite of the Final Fantasy character it's pronounced sao-win after the Irish pagan god of death. I'm not a pagan but we're on a wargames website so I thought it fitting.

Indeed. From the manual: "French government will now offer an armistice once Paris is captured or left empty after June 27th 1940."
We sleep peaceably in our beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on our behalf.

Oh! Really weird! Why does this happen? Why should France surrender if there is no unit inside Paris? All French units were in the first line of defence to stop the advancing German Army... It doesnt make any sense ...It doesnt match with reality! Nevermind thanx a lot for the clarification!

Also in warfare you should never leave your Capital with no troops.

We saw that is quite a few games the Germans didn't want to take Paris so they could hunt down all other French forces before declining the armistice. This meant that when they declined the armistice the was not French units left that could evacuate.

By leaving Paris then France actually forces the armistice offer and Germany has to accept or decline there and then what to do.

So think of leaving Paris as a French way of initiating the armistice offer situation. It means France wants to accept the armistice or at least have quite a few units they can evacuate if the offer is declined.
