reconmove trait issue
When giving land transport units (class 14) the reconmove trait, the units with transport can’t move at all or only 1 hex.
Re: reconmove trait issue
Hello Horst, I tried to experiment to see what would happen, and it seems, somehow, that the transport's movement rate gets overruled by the movement of the unit it is transporting. I'm not 100% sure, but it looks as if it works like this:
If you put a basic infantry in a truck (which has been given reconmove) the truck will assume the movement rate (3 hexes) of the infantry, but it will still be wheeled movement. So with a normal towed unit it will have only one movement point. Because it is still a 'wheeled' type of movement, it may be unable to move due to the movement costs of a wheeled vehicle. So say you have an artillery unit with 1hex 'towed' move, than the combination with the truck will have 1hex 'wheeled' move. And this means you can't enter some types of terrain with it, so it may result in some combinations having zero movement I guess.
So apparently the reconmove trait gets the transports' movement rate mixed up with whatever it is transporting, but it still spends those movement points according to the movement type of the transport?

Re: reconmove trait issue
For example, the reconmove on infantry alone works fine together with a truck without reconmove. If the infantry can move 3 tiles on clear or road then it is able to move with reconmove twice or without reconmove once per turn its normal distances.
It only gets buggy if the transport gets the trait. Then the infantry can only move like one or two hexes.
For a test, I’ve changed the movement type of the truck to leg. Surprisingly, the infantry unit can move its 3 hexes with reconmove now and you can move twice per turn, but it can’t go further with land transport anymore.
It looks like the reconmove trait on transports doesn’t play along well with the switch to extended truck movement hexes.
Reconmove on air and sea transports works fine.
Something else: is the AI actually able to move more than once per turn with the reconmove trait or with any recon class unit at all?
Can’t remember I’ve ever seen an AI recon unit moving several times per turn. I’ve currently given all planes reconmove but the AI won’t make use of it. It’s disappointing, because it gives me as player too much advantage.

Re: reconmove trait issue
I think not. In many games I get frustrated because it is the AI recon units that move ahead of the AI main force but don't stop-spot-move on. They move the whole of their MV into unknown hexes and get ambushed. This is the opposite of what should occur with recons (at least when used by a human player) - they should never (maybe rarely) get ambushed.Something else: is the AI actually able to move more than once per turn with the reconmove trait or with any recon class unit at all?
