Western Medieval Enthusiasts

Post by IainMcNeil »

We're helping a small indie team of developers to create a simple medieval strategy game. We thought it would be nice to add some real historica background to teh game rather than a generic medieval setting and are looking for someone or a few people to help out with some background story and potential settings.

The game is turn based, hex based and very simple to pick up and play. It relies on 6-8 factions per scenario in single & multiplayer and the starting conditions should be very mixed up with hexes in an almost random allocation to teh factions. Small blocks of territory are much weaker than larger ones so you're always trying to link your territories up and this is a core part of gameplay. History wont be kind enough to give us something that matches exactly with what we need and we'll need to mould things a bit to fit.

The game is very simple and addictive so we're not looking for vast background studies - just a bit of ambience. 4-8 faction names and rough starting positions, a one paragraph description of the setting. We coudl take thigns further and add faction flags to show ownsership, possibly famous leaders or events that kind of thing, but this is probably not needed.

We're looking for around 10-15 scenarios though multiple scenarios could cover the same campaign. E.g. the Hundred Years War might have a scenario for the Black Prince and then another for Joan of Arc.

If anyone is interested in getting involved in a bit of game development research please let me know by posting in this thread! Obviously if you do you'll get a free copy of the completed game and full credits.

We're not looking for Beta testers at this stage but will let you know when we are so don't ask yet :)

Regards

We're very flexible on dates and locations. We're looking for anything people would generally consider to be medieval.

There was a "Timewatch" documentary on William Marshall b 1146 - d 1231 - Earl of Pembroke, Marshall of England

Which was on TV on Sat.

If you have BBCi player you can still watch it until Sat (see link 1), if you missed it

Thanks guys - this is what we'd need.
* a map showing the area in question with the area controlled by the different factions marked in some way.
* the name of the 4-8 factions in each scenario and a very brief (1 sentence) description
* a paragraph on the scenarios background story & the start date.

You can either post your suggestions in this thread or mail them to info@slitherine.co.uk.

From the game's description all I can think of is a small island called Catan... :P (and the old Milton Bradley 'Shogun' - with headaches trying to link up the random territories you start with)
