kingt (Allies) vs Monsoeren (Germans) - Finished - Allied Win
I'll have a couple of new challenges set up later today.
Gort, I didn't see yours either in the previous days, I just assumed someone took them.

Re: Battle of Ortona
Hey Arctic, Can you confirm that everyone in your tourney has downloaded and started playing?
I've discovered some rubble that doesn't block vehicles or offer cover, and a patch of woods that lacks the essential blocking trees.
I'm going to update the OrtonaMP master .BAM but I won't do it until I know all of you have already begun...
Of course, if you want to have the fixed rubble and trees, just finish your current games and re-download before starting your next...
PS. Thanks for re-educating me on Ortona! Two great games. It was good to play Germans first, because you reminded what to do... Shameful but fun, lol... Feels like Allies have it easier, right?... Will be waiting for you by the pool

Wow that was nerve wrecking king. It wasn't until the last couple of turns that I actually started believing in victory. Well played sir.

Re: Battle of Ortona
GL,
I don't believe JC has started any games yet; I think he's having connectivity issues still. GWS hasn't either, as far as I know. He had the same issue with Ortona not showing in the MP list as I did. The rest of us have started.
I'd say let's go with the re-download before next game option.
Agreed. Both games have been fun. Though I think I've liked Allies a little more, but I still had to scramble at the end to get the win. Wonder why?

Re: Battle of Ortona
Ok, will update tonight and version up, so it's obvious to all.
Ortona gets one's blood up... Kill or be killed. Rinse and repeat... Suddenly there are less than 10 units each and less than 10 turns to go, when both sides "remember" to go for the flags... Scramble...!!
I'm not sure but I suspect you had more units leftover as Allies, hence the ability to scramble? Your Bren/para combi won the day while I was foolishly chasing your remaining forces instead of taking flags... Doh.
By 10 to go, it should be flags, flags, flags...

GL, do you ever sleep?
I was doing pretty well, for me, as Allies. You'd cleaned out 38 units I believe, but I'd gone so infantry heavy I had 10 or so left. In our reverse I have (had) a whopping 2 German units left.

Re: Battle of Ortona
Thanks for two great games, Arctic! Very different play. Very different outcomes. I like your Panther going out in a blaze of glory. Nice touch!
Since I see you all up and playing, I've updated the Ortona MP fixes, so feel free to upgrade versions for your next round of games (or not, as you prefer).
If you're willing to let me try the Germans again... I'm curious to test a change of strategy... to see if we can make it to the pool after all?...
Ps. Yup, 88s sleep too... Day from hell in the 'office' today... Sooo ZZZzzzzzz... and then some...

Absolutely. Set it up and I'll gladly go again.
Hell, at the rate I'm going you might be my only win.

Re: Battle of Ortona
Now that sounds like good fighting talk, Arctic... Like it!
Ok, let's go for best of three... 1 each so far... I'll give you the advantage of being Allies for our decider. I've setup our new game. It's under the 'blocking tree' repaired version v1.21 (which won't affect games you've already started, other than reporting a code mismatch error if your opponent doesn't also upgrade). Password arctic.
Our German piscina is ready for you. Suntanned italianas are waiting with chilled drinks for any lucky Canadians (who make it that far!)

Darn, I drew the unlucky batch of Canadians (or they drew me; very, very unlucky Canadians) but I comfort myself with the fact that your Italianas with drinks by the pool are actually hard-bitten partisans who've infiltrated the Ortona Swimming Club. So, you know, be careful...

Re: Battle of Ortona
Gents,
I've noticed in my games with Arctic that Ortona still shows "promotion" and "loading"/"deployed" warnings, which give away your units' positions to your MP opponent...
I fixed this months ago for our GJS'44 campaign but somehow never got around to doing it for Ortona... I'm out today (it's Mothering Sunday in Ol' Blighty
) but I'll try to upload the necessary repair tonight...
Will post again here, when it's done. Until then, be aware that any promotions and transport deployments will be carefully noted down by experienced enemies...

Re: Battle of Ortona
Ok guys, It's done.
Ortona MP v1.22 is now available to download using the usual link.
Promotion stars and "promotion" label have now been disabled
"Loading" and "Deploying" labels for transported units have now been disabled
ie. you can now promote, load and unload at will, with no more fear of giving away your position...
Happy scrapping!
