Trying to run game in Mac please help
Postby robertcomposer » 03 Jan 2013 23:04
I have not played the game in about a year and finally have time to play - but cannot get it to run.
I have CEAW 1.01 and also CEAW Gold edition. Looking on the web site I see:
1) That there is an update to version 2 but apparently I need to first have V. 1.06 installed. I may have had this at one point, but can't find it now and do not see it available on the site. Do I need V. 1.06 and is so can you tell me where to get it?
2) It looks like the game has been discontinued. Is this the case? PLease let me know.
I am running a Mac OSX 10.6.8 with plenty of memory etc. Thank in advance for any help that may be offered.

So you bought the game a year ago?
I guess you have the PC version and not the Mac version?

Re: updating and running on Mac
Actually I have the Mac version. When I get info on the application it says V1.01
I also have the "Gold" version which if I recall was an upgrade I purchased.
1.01 runs on my Mac, but the "Gold" version plays the opening video and then gives an error message "error opening file" and then crashes.
My question is, am I able to upgrade to V.2 of CEAW even though I have only version 1.01?

Re: updating and running on Mac
Ahhh
Installed V2.0 and its running fine!
Now, can anyone tell me if the game is still in development or has it been discontinued? I hope not - fun game. I also have Hearts of Iron III, but it is basically unplayable (far too complicated) and tutorials are not at all good. I am a very experienced war gamer but HOI is a great disappointment in that it has a ridiculous learning curve and the developers seem to not have any interest in helping players get up to speed. So Commander is great fun - and the new version looks even better with more detail!
I'm Interested in any news from fellow WWII strategic game lovers about game development and resources.
Thanks!

Re: updating and running on Mac
Hi,
CEAW Gold is no longer in development, this is known as the vanilla version The latest expansion is CEAW Grand Strategy v2.10 which was done by some enthusiasts to the game. CEAW-GS has an earlier expansion v2.0 but is no longer available unless you can find it some where. V2.0 is not compatible with v2.10 .
The Mac vanilla version 1.06 is not compatible with the PC version 1.12 Gold. The CEAW-GS expansion v2.10 is compatible between PC and Mac and handles the different languages better. Those were the initial goals the CEAW-GS Dev Team decided on before it was released 2 years ago.

Re: updating and running on Mac
Thank you for the update pk867 and thank you to all involved in the CEAW Grand Strategy v2.10 development. I'm exploring it now and it looks outstanding.
I'll keep an eye on this forum for news and updates.

Re: updating and running on Mac
Check the tutorial AARs on the Paradox Interactive Forum. I'm no longer playing HOI3, but it was my favourite game for a while and it's a very good one (only with expansions, though) and there are some nice mods you might want to try, too.I also have Hearts of Iron III, but it is basically unplayable (far too complicated) and tutorials are not at all good.
BTW 2.1 patch for CEAW was released not that long ago. As for the future versions, the devs said that they might do them, but it's not certain and won't happen soon.
Re: updating and running on Mac
HOI was total garbage, I got the first HOI and it was the worst game ever made. I couldn't get behind the mid-air re-arming of nukes nor when the dev team said it totally revamped the Japanese naval units when all they did was give them Japanese names instead of correcting the screwed up setup of incorrect vessel types.
I'm really looking forward to being able to get the Mac version of CEaW. I read through a few AAR's and the game does sound interesting in approach.
