Well I've finally hit a scenario that, at least for me, is impossible to get a DV in. This would be Celles. If anyone can manage it, I'd be interested in how you did it.
thanks,
Kevin
Celles - DV? I don't think so

Which campaign?
Re: Celles - DV? I don't think so
1945 West
Re: Celles - DV? I don't think so
Yeah I have a hard time on that scenario as well for a DV, especially taking all the refueling into account. I think the round limit is a bit too low - 19 or 20 would be more appropriate.
Re: Celles - DV? I don't think so
It is a tough scenario indeed, and as with all winter scenarios the weather can cripple your advance. If it is any consolation, the outcome doesn't really matter for the campaign path, I believe. A Loss or MV nets 2500pr, a DV 3000pr, but all have the next scenario set the same: Bastogne (Siege). Getting a DV can be a Pyrrhic Victory.
When testing, the second time I played it I managed a DV on Colonel difficulty on the last turn. I first got an MV and knew where the opposing forces where located, and tailored my core composition & deployment to make better use of this information. But without some load/save activity and with worse weather it would have been another MV. For a better player it would be possible on General, I suppose.
The closed beta with the thread about the scenario is still not moved to open beta, so unfortunately I cannot post a link.

I don't think so either!
I won't even try replaying this one, there's nothing I can do to break through
Look at my last turn - if there were few more turns I would have been wiped out

No, thank youResolute wrote:Yeah I have a hard time on that scenario as well for a DV, especially taking all the refueling into account. I think the round limit is a bit too low - 19 or 20 would be more appropriate.

Yep,
The difference for me was that I'd wiped out the group in the upper right. Now way was I going to get through that group in the center in under another 5-7 turns, if at all!

Re: Celles - DV? I don't think so
Ja Ja mein Obergruppenführer! Das is sehr schwierig!!
This is definately a last turn victory round. Played as Colonel with weather and supply on. Probably a lot easier with them off as speed is the key. I divided my forces into Army Group A (North) Army Group B (Central) and Army Group C (South). Each with 2 Tigers 2 Jagpanthers 2 Artillery 2 Infantry and an 88 (Great tank busters!) then the rest was Stukas and SE Units. The key was to keep moving and attacking with one half of each army group, and waste a turn refueling the other half before the yellow ammo and fuel appeared. Good discipline with close artillery support essential. Also make sure infantry upfront for assaults on cities whilst Tigers and Jagpanthers mop up the heavy armour. However luck with the weather is essential to get the air support to soften up the cities at the end. Also spent a lot of money on repairs and lost two core units so only a morale victory at a high price.

Congratulations on your DV, 2010sjones2010! Celles ist sehr schwer indeed... Good advice, and maybe the victory conditions need another setting, the 'Pyrrhic Victory', next to the Minor and Decisive Victory! After achieving a DV and checking the victory conditions afterwards with the editor I concluded that a DV in this scenario is both difficult and a bit pointless, but a great way to trim your core units back down a bit... Still, that doesn't keep me from trying.
