rail station terrain type

Post by Kriegsheld »

I am about to start the Vilna scenario and noticed many rail stations. That terrain type is not mentioned in the library. Are rail stations the same as city hexes for tanks?

I don't know the answer but you can quickly find out by pre-checking the combat log before attacking. Select the unit you want attack with and CTRL+Click on your target.
The combat log will show up with a detailed prediction. If anyone except an infantry unit get their initiative caped and/or the tank has to defend with his close defense value instead his ground defense you know its so called rough terrain.

OK, that is embarrassing. I'm just replaying the grand campaign for the 3rd time and next scenario for me is actually Vilna. :D
To your question. Yes rail stations are city hexes.

This is correct, rail stations are indeed city hexes. The primary reason for this is so that trains can embark and disembark units on these hexes. Maps such as Vilna in 44E and Orel in 43E typically have large distances to cover, so adding rail stations is a great way to move around these maps quickly.

I was confused by this too, at first. Maybe in a future update the library can be updated to include this. Also, how frozen ground changes combat, too. These aren't clear and can trip you up at first, though granted, are rare.

If it wasn't for the 3 full turns it take to ship a unit. :(
