Err, I think he kinda can. In that situation where you have two BG's in side edge to side edge combat, I'm pretty sure you COULD (dunno if you still can) turn 90 degrees and initiate combat. It's not a flank charge (it's not a charge at all as the 'impact' happens in the manouver phase). But I believe that is the ONLY circumstance... and happens very rarely. So rarely that I'm not 100% sure I'm not making it upphilqw78 wrote:No

A battle group could also turn 90 and then move into an overlap position for an existing melee.

This can happen, but you can only turn, no other movement and there are very strict circumstances. The turning BG cannot be in combat or in a position to provide overlap dice against those it turns into. The BG turned into does not have to turn to face, and if it could normally evade and is not already in melee it can do that as well if it wants.
