Smoke
Hi, I'm currently playing one of the GJS '44 scenarios (gold beach) on the ipad version and I've come across smoke rounds for the first time. Could someone please tell me how these work? Do they just provide cover on the spot they land on or do they also act as a line of site blocker? I tried covering an infantry attack with smoke and it didn't seem to help much (at all?).

Re: Smoke
Smoke doesn't work properly on the iPad. There's much more to it than just those little puffs, but you need to use your imagination and figure how it affects LOS. I've not used it much myself, but it does affect LOS in that you can move units forward or in retreat and cover that movement; units on your opponents flanks won't be blocked.
Hopefully someone jot on an iPad can give a more complete answer
Here's a thread where you can see how smoke in action and how its supposed to actually appear:

Re: Smoke
Hey Foxtrot, Smoke blocks LOS and that's about it... How much smoke you get is random... You usually get 1-2 puffs, but you might get zero or 3 also...
The best way to think about smoke is that it drops an obstacle BETWEEN you and your opponent. Although it's counter-intuitive, you only get the benefit of being hidden when you're behind the smoke, not when you're inside the smoke, so be sure to stay on your side of the smoke after you fire it...
Smoke works best when you can use two or three mortars to fire a wall of smoke, blocking an enemy from seeing what you're doing, from multiple angles... Usually freaks 'em out, lol!

Although there is a chemical warfare version called "Maui wowie". Really freaks them out. Very popular in 'Nam, I believe....GottaLove88s wrote:... Usually freaks 'em out, lol!
