A list of dual-mode units?

Post by dumbttt »

Is there a list somewhere of all the dual-mode units in the game? or is there a way to find out which ones can operate in dual mode?

I think I can answer this:

a) No, there is no official list. But keep in mind, to corps or army level commanders during the war, they would have little notice of what future units were going to do and when exactly they would become available. I really like the basic game aspect of "here's this - play with it," for authenticity. So I don't consider this a problem.

b) You can "hack" your way around this by enabling the cheat "all eqp". Then you can can look through upgrades and see which one is in family. It doesn't tell you right away if it's switchable, though. Deploy it a turn, see what it does, the revert to saved - this would let you find out in advance what equipment is in line and what it does. So the cheats are enabled to let you figure this out.

But I suggest you just go and capture yourself some SU-122s - good advice! ;)

Here's a list off my head of what's dual mode:

flak 88 (but not 128 after upgrade)
captured Su-122s
StuG IV's from late '43 (?) onward
In '44 certain Romanian and Moldovan Cavalry units can switch to "vampire" mode, and an attack has the same effect as strategic bombers in draining ammo and strength.
Ok, kidding on that last one. ;)

here's how I normally deploy my FlaK '88s:

Don't forget the Italian Sahariana recon/infantry! I don't have cool Lego models of them, though.

Well, if you are going to go with the "all eqps" route, there is no need to deploy each unit at all. All you need to do is look for units that appear in more than 1 category. For example, your 8.8 flak should appear in AT as well as AA. Now, that's a lot easier than putting it on the map and testing it. When an unit can function like this in multiple categories, I expect the game to tell me, I shouldn't have to look around for this information.

As for your first point, I cannot think of a less ridiculous excuse. This game is not even close to a realistic battle simulation, it's just a game, its not valid imo to say this or that shortcoming is really not a shortcoming, but actually adds to the "realism" of the game. I suppose you don't enjoy having your tank randomly disabled due to mechanical failures or your infantries randomly dying due to deceases? Granted, this is just a minor annoyance at this point since there are so few dual modes, with more such units it can get quite confusing. There should be either an indicator or mouse-over text that supplies this information.
