Do you think sdkfz 250 is worth it?
It costs 200 to upgrade from sdkfz 251, but the only thing you get is +2 move, do you think it's worth it? Usually infantry should stay behind your panzers anyway, so the movement of infantry should rarely be an issue.

For historical "theme" purposes most of my infantry rides around in trucks or 251s but I toss in a few 250s for variety.
Most of my infantry is move 3 infantry for which I don't usually notice the +movement but for the couple of Wehr HW infantry the +movement makes a big difference in ensuring they're where they *need* to be to do something useful *next* turn.

The 250's extra movement adds up, especially over the course of a larger scenario, or on the larger maps. IMO, it's worth the investment if you can afford to phase it in.

Considering I'm swimming in prestige by DLC41, I got them for the advance to Moscow. I think in scenarios where you are pressed for time, one more unit that can enter the last city hex in the last turn is very valuable. Also fast infantry can get sidetracked to take minor objectives to get captured units and stuff without being left behind.
Re: Do you think sdkfz 250 is worth it?
I feel like you, the extra movement would be nice but the price is prohibitive and Infantry usually has to stay behind tank cover. Tanks are 4-6 speed, so no real need for the faster halftrack.
Re: Do you think sdkfz 250 is worth it?
I buy them very selectively, because they cost a lot. I usually only buy them for units which take few casualties and are used in second-line duties. So, a towed artillery unit or a bridge engineer are usually good candidates. The bridge engineer can use the extra movement to catch up quickly after it has helped cross a river, and leaving an artillery unit behind to help in capturing a bypassed strongpoint is less problematic because it can catch up faster. This also helps if you have to re-arm often, the extra turns spent this way can be made up (slightly) by the extra movement.
If you are swimming in prestige, it can be helpful in different ways. If your precious SE HW infantry gets unlucky, you can spend a turn reinforcing it and the extra movement of the 250 will help to get it back into the fight quicker.
Note that halftracked movement suffers a lot off-road during snow and mud, so movement-wise the 250 offers little advantage under specific circumstances. When the ground is frozen the 251/250 halftracks will often move at no more than half speed, so the movement difference is only one hex sometimes.

ThvN's response is very good. Bridge units are good candidates. The marginal movement there sometimes saves a turn on a strategy, adn they are not usually subject to damage that you have to pay badly for combat attrition or occasional mistakes.
I play on Rommel. Prestige is uber-tight until '42 when going through the Grand Campaign, and I'd never consider a 251 after they become available. And until you get good at Rommel-level tactics, prestige is also crushing mid-43 to mid-44. But by that time, I've settled thing into 251's and upgrading is of little help. And also like longasc pointed out, tanks move 4 to 6 and you'd better not have buttoned-up infantry out in advance!
I think the 250 is helpful for someone who isn't experienced at reading the battlefield during deployment. If you learn to look at terrain, objectives, etc. and anticipate where you need artillery, infantry, armour, you don't need to be shifting it all over the place mid-battle.
If you are playing on a lower level and have gobs of prestige, sure, do it - it will help with fire-brigade tactics to shift units until getting more familiar with the game, units, and what strategy works. But over the long run it is not a huge thing.

I don't know about anyone else, but I constantly end up with straggler enemy units of only 1 or 2 strength that always seem to be just outside the range of my foot infantry. Believe it or not, the sdkfz has killing power and great range.
I've had some of my infantry units not even dismount after the initial setup and breakthrough.
