Southern League - The ECW (and a bit), London Round May 26th

Post by madaxeman »

Round 2 – Central London
• Date – Sunday in late May/early June
• Venue – The Escape Sports Bar, 2 Lidlington Place, Regents Park, London NW1 2JU (2 minutes walk from Mornington Crescent tube). If you want to drive, parking is controlled on Sundays in the streets immediately around the pub, but if free a couple of blocks away (in some streets which may be somewhat less secure?) - otherwise there are car parks nearby as well
Camden parking can be seen here: http://maps.camden.gov.uk/parkingbays/p ... %20holders
• Format – 2 x 3hr 15min games
• Period - Revolution & Turmoil in the UK 1639-1688 Early Caroline English, Scots Covenanter, Scots Royalist, Confederate Irish, Early ECW Royalist, ECW Parliamentarian, Later ECW Royalist, New Model Army, Restoration British, Covenanting Rebels, Monmouth Rebellion,

The pub is available on the 26th May, so unless any of the other bigger competitions announce dates for that weekend that's when we will be aiming for folks.

As far as I know, the cost will be "buy at least a couple of drinks during the day and order a curry for lunch".

We will aim for a 930ish start time, so curry lunch at 1pm-ish, so we can all aim to be done by around 5-515pm

We can definitely fit 10 tables in, and I think we can get up to 12, so at least 20 people can enter.

Email to me at ECW (at) madaxeman.com to enter together with your army list. I will be using Scots Royalists so I can give these chaps a run out

Here's the draw - it's just about worked out perfectly so we can match up Royalist vs Parliamentarian (or Irish) in round 1, and also keep all of the Central Londoners apart for the first game as well.

Brian Holmes Scots Royalist vs Paddy Bray Irish Confederate
Chris Beesley Scots Royalist vs Tim Myall Parliamentarian
Don Avis Later Royalist vs David Allen Scots Covenanters
Don McHugh Early Royalist vs Dave Saunders Parliamentarian
Jim Gibson Scots Royalist vs Gordon Jamieson Scots Covenanters
Martin van Tol Later Royalist vs Peter Foster Scots Royalist
Ray Boyles Scots Royalist vs Geoff Punshon Parliamentarian
Keith Spedding Scots Royalist vs Alasdair Harley Scots Covenanters

I don't have Peter Foster's list as yet, nor confirmation from him so there is a chance I will be filling that slot if he ends up not being able to make it. If so I might bring a Parliamentarian army instead of the Scots Royalist, partly to keep the first round tidy and partly as there are so many other Scots already !

The plan is turn up at 10am, start playing once we get in and set up the tables and I'll call time around 1-something-pm in time for us all to have a curry. Start again just after 2pm, finish playing by 6pm.

Interesting set of lists. Will have to look up Scots Royalist. Other than Jim, Alasdair and Mr Allen all my (potential) opponents are new to me.

Far too many scurvy scots and Irish there for my liking (9 of 15) - they need to be put in their place starting with the Wizardy Covenanters!!!

Bring it on - looking forward to a great day's gaming, with great snack, in great company! Thanks to Tim for organising.
