Version? (Noob)

I am still squaring off against the AI, but am thinking of trying my luck with PBEM. From the forum, and AAR's, it apppears some folks are playing different mods. Perhaps I am confusing the "regular" game (GS 2.1) with the beta. Who is playing what version, and what is reccomended for the novice? I have played other games (a little) PBEM (Chiefly TAOW). Any insights?

The versions. CEAW (known as the vanilla version) are 1.12 PC or v1.06 Mac . They are not compatible to share PBEM games.

The latest expansion version is CEAW-GS v2.10 that is the official release this past Fall. This version is compatible between PC's and Mac versions. There is an bug update to v2.10 to beta v2.12 which is still testing to take the time to catch bugs and then will be given to Slitherine to update the v2.10 with the patch and have a new version number.

TY! I have been having a blast with GS 2.10. Sometimes I get confused with the differences in games mentioned in the AAR's, or some of the postings. Trying to learn the system is a bit of a task, give the huge amount of work everyone has put into it...well worth the effort, though. Reading the manual is a bit of a task, but I started with the "low hanging fruit," (Thanks to whoever thought to include that bit of wisdom). GREAT Game!
