Re: GJS'44 - D-Day - Allied paras still hold Caen
Justin,
Current teams here -> viewtopic.php?f=87&t=38844&p=383692#p383611
I've still got you as Acting Commander Allies, and not sure of status for Mowby?
Would you like one of your guys to step up to handle the strat stuff? With you & Mike to advise?
Or should we think about getting a German "turncoat" to swap?

I think I can handle June 9th orders, it would be good if I had some planning help from Mike if he wants/can do that, a draft for me to work with the boys.
I'd like to step down as supreme pizza allied commander for June 10th though, and just be someone's assistant commander/field officer. No word from Mowby for awhile, I think the real world might have gobbled him up?

Something to do with their revolutionary new design? And lithium batteries? Wouldn't fly in one myself...jcb989 wrote:Everything seemed fine from my side, except for my exploding M16 unitcavehobbit wrote:JCB, I had problems uploading my last turn and after several attempts I was asked to discard the turn. Re: GJS'44 - D-Day - Allied paras still hold Caen
Quick reminder on supplies because it's becoming relevant for two BGs...
6AL/6 parachuted into Caen on June 7th... so now has only 1 further day of supplies for June 9th, unless an Allied supply route can be traced to it before June 10th
858/346 became isolated in Ouistreham on June 8th... so now has only 1 further day of supplies for June 9th, unless a German supply route can be traced to it before June 10th

GJS'44 Rulebook wrote:8. Supplies
8.1 The last unit passing through a sector gains control over that sector for its team.
8.11 Allied-liberated sectors are marked on the Strat Map with an RAF roundel.
8.12 All sectors are controlled by the German-side until they are liberated by the Allies.
8.13 Sectors retaken by the Germans lose their RAF roundel.
8.14 Sector control for each day is determined before that day's moves are made, ie. it will take one day to retake a sector (and to re-establish supply lines).
8.2 All units must be able to trace a continuous path of controlled sectors to a source of supplies.
8.21 German BGs receive 1 day of supplies from either Villers Bocage or Vimont, plus 1 day of supplies from Caen or Bayeux, provided that the supplying town is held by the Germans. ie. German BGs typically enjoy 2 days of supplies, until Caen and Bayeux are lost, then they receive only 1 day of supplies, until Vimont and Villers-Bocage are also lost, when German BGs will lose their access to new supplies.
8.22 New German BGs arrive in Villers-Bocage or Vimont fully supplied for 2 days.
8.23 Allied BGs receive 1 day of supplies from any of Gold, Juno or Sword beach, provided that the supplying sector is held by the Allies, plus an additional 1 day of supplies if all three of Gold, Juno and Sword beaches are held by the Allies. ie. Allied BGs typically have 1 day of supplies, until they gain control over all three of the main landing beaches, when the massive influx of materiel raises this to 2 days.
8.24 Beach landing Allied BGs, including commandos, arrive on the beach fully supplied for 1 day only.
8.25 Commandos parachuting inland carry sufficient supplies for 3 full days, including their date of arrival. Consequently, the Allies must establish a supply line to airborne commandos by day 4, or those BGs will suffer out of supply penalties.
8.3 Out of supply BGs suffer severe penalties.
8.31 The base morale for all units in an "out of supply" BG is reduced: by 50 for all infantry except volksgrenadiers, by 25 for volksgrenadiers and all other units.

Can anyone explain this? When replaying jcb's last turn, suddenly I can see his Sherman shooting at a house. As you can see I have no units nearby.

Hey Cavehobbit, If that game is not over, you might want to pull the graphic... Otherwise Jcb will know where you're not...
It's due to BA's normal game engine... BA shows players all enemy units that open fire, even if you have no units near enough to see them...
I assume it's due to BA designers' view that if a unit opens fire, soldiers should hear it and be able to identify it... However, BA is generous to show you exact type and facing direction too...
Therefore, caution advised when using suppression fire on enemy positions... If there are no units there, you're giving away your own movements...
How's Bayeux 2 going? The northeastern start and better matched unit mixes looked set for a fun fight... Should be a good one...

Jcb and I have negotiated a ceasefire as we've only firing mortar rounds and smoke rounds blindly the last few turns. I let him withdraw without further losses to Creully. Here's the casualties screen:

As you see above we've decided to end the battle a bit earlier. Hope that's ok with you, Jon

Negotiated ceasefire, with above losses and 231/50 withdrawal to Creully approved.
Well done guys...
I have to say, Cavehobbit's "bad habit" of knocking out M5s and scouts makes it very difficult for his enemies to win...

I will update the OOB for Bayeux 2...
Commanders, With Bayeux 2 complete it's time to submit your team orders for June 9th...
PM me any questions beforehand. It's ok to send a draft, to check that all moves are valid, before going final...
Good luck all.

Commanders,
I'm considering releasing aerial recon of 1 or 2 battle maps ahead of June 9th orders... which might help you to choose favourable territory for your BGs...
I'm not promising (your flights might get shot down, or your sapeurs lost) but if commanders email/PM me their requests (which maps you'd like), I'll consider 'em...
Happy planning gentlemen!

Re: GJS'44 - D-Day - Waiting for June 9th orders
Situation at the end of June 8th.

For iPad (don't know if it's just me, but I can't see the right side of the image above on my iPad, but I have no problems with attached images):

Cool mapping P-A.
I notice you've added an amber-coloured frame to 6al/6 (Caen) and 858/346 (Ouistreham).
Is this to show that they'll be out of supply on June 10th?
Darned clever...!

It was all part of our final stage of strategy to provoke the enemy into coming out of their hidey holes.
Unfortunately a wiser commander was in charge most of the time, and they did not fall for our "ow ow my sherman is here" tricks.

No, this show they are cut off from their line of supply. If out of supply the frame will be red. I will try to work out a way to show how many days of supply a BG has.GottaLove88s wrote:Cool mapping P-A.
