Free Canton Spearmen

Post by teboj17 »

Looking to build a unit or two of these guys. The book says they did not carry shield. I am wondering what people have used to represent them or what they would recommend to use.

As I understand it (and I could be wrong) they were just peasants with a long spear.

Two Dragon make a nice VIKING range which have some spearmen that are not particularly recognisable as anything other than guys in shirt and pants with a spear... very much what I'd think of as 'peasants with spears'.

In 15 mm, Mirliton infantry with lance, from their Communal Italian range. These look pretty good for protected spearmen without shields. I also like the mounted crossbowmen from this range. Mirliton's Medieval ranges look like they would be good for any European armies of the 13th century.
Thracians
Classical Indians

-Germans (many flavors), Danes, Low Countries
Burgundians
In progress - Later Hungarians, Grand Moravians
