They call you lady luck, but there is room for doubt
Some times you have a very unladylike way of running out!

Sounds like you deployed sensibly - you had quality to his quantity so should be able to overmatch the ABs in one area.
But your description of what happened subsequently suggests that your army might have got spread out and some of your small units got isolated, or matched against the enemy's best troops (I may of course be mis-reading). I do agree those two base units are very fragile so I find you need to be very careful with them. I've played against them and they look scary right up until the point when they are fighting their two bases against the enemy four bases and then they die.
Graham,
Pictures are in the AARs room of the forum. Game 3 ones show a reasobaly tight centre with protected flanks... right up untill I lose the army in a puff of smoke
Still looks a little spread out to me at impact to be honest and the pike have got a little left behind - so the enemy got a chance to rally from the chariot impact. With a quality army vs numbers I'd be hoping that after impact and conforming there'd be no more than an overlap at the end of the line.
Difficult to see in your picture but seems like you had some gaps:
- companions overlapped by LH
- gap between the other companions and cats once latter conform?
- gap between two pike phalanxes?
- gap between right hand pike phalanx and elephants?
Of course, bad dice will do you in anyway but allowing overlaps against 2 base units is very risky no matter how good they are.
