adding to a melee

had something happen in a game today didn't quite know if i could do it the situation was a unit of skirmishers was in a melee with another unit of skirmishers and just behind them was of unit of medium foot light spear men. could they enter the melee from the rear and if so want advantage would they give the melee

The only way they could enter combat is:

1- impact into a base that isn't in frontal contact with anyone; or,
2 - maneuver into overlap.

Unless it was one of the above two, the second unit just has to hang about until it is over.

the BG behind the melee would give rear support to the freindly BG. That amounts to an extra +1 when taking cohesion tests. That is all. Of course, should the BG break, the BG behind would be there to stop the pursuit of the enemy BG.
