I'm also finding it tough. I'm the allies in all but one of my games. I'm finding crossing the open ground is too costly and fighting my way through the woods doesn't leave enough to fight into the centre. So am uncertain how to best play this one from allies' perspective.

Play more Hillman battles as Germans, JT. It quickly becomes obvious where the weak defence points are. There are plenty... As you and Leci are exposing in our games!

2 out of 2 for the Germans so far... Until somebody figures out the "solution" to the challenge, this could go 80-90% German wins...

Allies (johntindall) beaten by Germans (GL88s).

Could've broken through on the River Crossing if my arty (on time and on target) had managed to suppress his 88, but didn't quite do it and Jon had time to recover and blow away the last of my units. An ambush on one of his tanks at two-tile distance into his flank also failed. Just one of those games where everything almost worked but didn't!

I just took the back flag off Arcticpost despite a couple of rookie errors. Still several turns to go.

Hmmm...

Sharing a dilemma with you guys... and it goes like this...

Attacking Hillman full frontal is brutal... One or two 88s in those bunkers equals a lot pain, and smaller gas budgets for my fewer Shermans...

But attempting to drive one of Leci's schwerpunkt's from the other side of the bridge, benefits from plenty of cover in the forest, so gives a mostly easy approach...
Until... The... Bridge...

I've discovered, playing as Allies and Germans, that That Bridge, is a deathtrap... It takes far too long to get anything there in meaningful numbers... So it's easy for the krauts to amass, for example, two hidden 88s, three mortars, two PzIVs, a Wirbel AA, a pzshrek, 4-5 infantry and MG42s, a puma, you name it... Quite a party... unless you're the Allies...

But maybe I'm doing it wrong? If at first you fail to succeed, try, try again...

Or maybe I won't...???

Well I've had joncorcuera lay down the mother of all artillery barrages on my (German) right flank and start moving his tanks and infantry into the bunkered area. I'm feeling like we'll have an Allied victory in the not too distant future. We're not quite at the "mopping up" stage but its uncomfortable right now....
