Any point in getting a stalingrad decisive victory?

Either way you go to Kursk and are awarded 2880 prestige.

It seems like you are better off going for the marginal victory and spending the extra turns to capture all the outlying cities for more prestige and more experience for your units.

Just wondering if there is something I am missing.

I noticed that there was not a response to your question yet.

I wish I had a good one. I only played Stalingrad once and that was back in the late spring/early summer. I do remember that I went for the DV and it was really painful.

I have exactly the same problem. I honestly can't remember anymore. But if you are right and the amount of prestige for DV and MV is same then the only reason to go for a DV would be personal satisfaction.

Given that the OP achieved a decisive victory, he might indeed be better off milking the scenario.

The thing is, depending on difficulty and the shape of your core unit not everyone might have that option and maybe rather struggled to survive. These players are probably happy it's over, regardless if they achieved a minor or decisive victory. :)

I guess it depends on the level of difficulty you are playing on. I'm assuming you are talking about DLC Stalingrad (3 missions)?

If so, I played it on middle (colonel) level and achieved DV in both Stalingrad scenarios. I didn't play Stalingrad ruins since I played it in previous campaign play through. I achieved DV but I also lost a lot of prestige in the process (around 3000 prestige from the start of Stalingrad scenario). This is however reasonable I guess since it is damn Stalingrad. If it was easy and didn't cost prestige than the game would generally be completely unrealistic. Still I managed to keep all my core units mostly undamaged, with few Italian auxiliary lost (I'm not sure if this.influences prestige you get after the battle).

I basically had most of my units 4 stared with 425 capped prestige at this point. I learned the hard way that you have to learn to play safe and keep your prestige and expert units. I used 4 wurhramens, 2 21 cm artilery, 9 infantry and around 5 Panzer 3 variant N for this mission to clear the town from infantry. I used Panzer 4s and captured KV tanks to keep the open spaces (streets) clear of enemy armor, as well as Stukas (4 of them). Basically just like scenario briefing says, move quickly but carefully. Wurfrahmens are the key here. Especially experienced ones. Always protect your units with artilery as developers were wise to put SMG infantry all around the town in exactly 3 hexes space so they can attack your armor or weaker infantry in the city if they are unprotected (and often times you don't see SMG infantry hiding in FOW). Don't be shy to use armor (especially Panzer 3 N to attack infantry in city once it has been suppressed with artillery). Also use 2 recons wisely to find the best path on some entrenched positions.

And one final note, don't try to conquer all hexes (it's pretty much impossible), just important ones. And maybe even all arty could be wurfrahmens as I didn't have that effectiveness from set arty.
