Charging without orders.

Post by Robert241167 »

Hi all

Just spotted the paragraph at the bottom of P62 in relation to exceptions:

"(Do NOT take into account possible additional or reduced move distance from any VMD that may be required).

As I see this impact foot whose move could only contact mounted if they rolled up on the VMD would still have to test not to charge skirmishers sat tempting them in front of said mounted.

A very interesting change......................

I see it as being consistant with the general rule that decisions are based on the current situation and not on hypothetical possibilities.

If MF impact foot are 5 MU from enemy mounted and 3 MU from an enemy LF skirmish screen in front of the mounted, the impact foot must test not to charge the LF.

Presumably this also means Heavy Foot can be tempted into rough and uneven terrain as well, as they no longer have their movement rates reduced?

Potentially, but only if they throw up on the VMD. If they don't, then they will be in normal charge range of the terrain and cannot be tempted to charge again.

So it won't happen too often, but it might sometimes replicate some historical occasions when HF got into rough terrain unexpectedly with disastrous results.
