13) Liege – beta 1

Level: Rommel, imported corps
Prestige: Begin: 325. End: 4,400. Net: +4,075
Result: DV 15/18
Replacement policy/prestige: none used.

Core changes: Disbanded 1x green Gebirgsjager for prestige.

Problems:
  • • None noted.
General impressions/comments:
  • • Nice to see the Ar 234. I had wished it had been in the East in ’45.
    • Straightforward scenario and pretty quick and direct.
Fun trivia, whenever I see Huy on a map, I think of that WWI era exchange:
  • “Ask the General if he things the Germans will cross the river at Huy.”
“Tell the Field Marshall I think the Germans came here to fish.”

Liege beta1

Colonel, Imported Core DV 16/18

Prestige before/after deployment: 8123/4549
Prestige on last turn/incl. victory bonus: 12644/12644

I managed to destroy all depots, which netted some big prestige bonuses. The extra planes together with my own air units quickly made short work of the Allied air force. On the ground things were a bit more difficult sometimes, but not troublesome, although British armour can be quite tough. Nearly lost a StuG and a Panther to the Allied forces near Crisnee (7,7), but because their Bishops were out in front of their formation they were quickly without support and relatively easy to deal with.

Some extra (mobile) AAA units for the Allied would perhaps help to make them last longer, esp. near Bassenge (14,3).

Liege
DV turn 18/18
Starting prestige 1900
Ending prestige 7000
Lossees: 1x SE Panther and recon car
Great scenario! The new aircraft were very fun to use. I also like the concept of not getting any prestige, and having to liberate supplies from Allied stocks. A very nice reference to the historical battle of the bulge. Luckily I had enough "supplies" stored up to at least do some reinforcing. It was a very touch and go scenario as Habermann described it, but I managed to get the last objective and the last supply depot on the very last turn.

Edit, Oh, and one other thing, just like the last scenario, the Allied air force could probably stand a boost. I think it is a great idea to give the player some fun new air units to play with, especially since there is a good chance that they had most of their air units wiped out in 43 or 44. But I didn't find the Allied air force to be much of credible threat in the last two scenarios.

Beta 2. General level. Starting prestige 1101, ending 6823.

I really like getting the new aircraft. Very useful and fun to have new types. The individual allied planes are tough, but in total they weren't overwhelming (I'm glad I upgraded my fighters to ME-262s in the first scenario!). The no prestige for winning the previous scenario is a fine concept, but it would be nice to have mentioned it in the briefing for Bastogne Assault. I would have played that scenario a bit differently.

DV on last turn because I went prestige farming. Overall a good scenario. I'll be glad when the snow is finally gone. Although, the fuel crisis certainly is keeping me from upgrading everything to Tiger IIs.
