Is parachutable light artillery possible?
It is too late for this release, but it would be cool if someone thought about implementing this in a future release.
Currently, I do not think that small artillery pieces are air transportable or are able to be dropped with paratroops.
I seem to remember that there was a small arty piece in Pac Gen (US 75mm pack howitzer perhaps) that was air transportable. I don't remember if it was parachutable or not. I might have had to capture an airfield to land. It also had a movement of two which was handy. Allowing certain small arty units these abilities would useful.
Is this feasible, or is it just crazytalk?

Hi there,
I really agree to Tiger III this was a possiblity I missed, when I was playing Panzer Corps for the first time. Shall be in 1.05 version.
As it was not possible to fly in trucks or halftracks, these transports where lost, when you used this airtransport.
Think about a scenario in Northafrika 1943 or Russia 1942/43:
Rescue a unit, fight your way to an airfield and transport to an other airfield to fullfill the mission. Stalingrad fly out the elite/specialist unit.
Core units have to fight to keep the airfield open for the arriving transport. Supportive units enable the start of the transport.
I really would like to play in an nice balanced scenario. Awesome to think about.
Para artillery or at guns was never in the old versions, and as the units are standing for bigger units as regiments or batallions a full batallion of para ari or at was not like it was in WW II. But glider landings on Krete, in Normandy or during the Rhine crossing occured.
Also transport planes landed motorbikes, light guns and heavy infantry mortars.
In addition, there was something like horse-drawn transport in old versions. Would be a nice patch to make heavy support units for low costs compareable fast to infantry. Nice for late war and Infantry Divisions. Costs 35 / Defense lower than trucks
A even greater step ahead for me would be to have unarmoured half-tracks and prime movers for movement of heavy gun classes. It is unrealistic to move a 21cm Gun with a truck, even US troops in late war carried heavy gun with tracked High Speed Movers (unarmoured).
Should be the only availe transport class for really heavy guns and more expensive than trucks. These softskins can move like the available armoured once and are vulnerable as trucks.
But this is still a tactial improvement which would make the good even better.
Nice gaming and Regards

I downloaded the editor and figured it out. I made the 7.5cm parachutable and gave it a movement of 2. It helps me hold a position my paratroops took. Now one of my core slots is taken by the weakest piece of artillery, because of it's new found utility.
After a playthrough it doesn't seem to imbalance or break the game in any way and makes me happy - so I think I will keep it this way.

I have a Market-Garden scenario ready for playtesting that uses new para units, air units with double movement (1km/hex map) and double artillery ranges. This works fine, even on a fairly large map.Vaughn wrote:After a playthrough it doesn't seem to imbalance or break the game in any way and makes me happy - so I think I will keep it this way.
There are limits especially regarding movement where too many MV points makes PzC work (too) hard to display movement ranges.
Small tip: Copy old equipment to a new row in the original equipment file (make a backup of course) and give it a high ID. I have all mine starting at ID# 3000. This means you do not have to swap the equipment file playing stock and custom scenarios.

I like that one, would be nice to pull AAs and other secondary units with lower speed and cost. Also it would add realism to early battles in 39 or technically worse equipped armies. In addition, there was something like horse-drawn transport in old versions. To Razz1:
Nice to hear that this will be implemented. This will, if also some other features and units become available or modified, mean everybody who played the game already one time, can nearly start a new campaign with different experience. This really is how a game makes itself glorious
.
As I can hear from the otheronce, airtransport for lightest units seems to be desired widely.
The hope never die and as you can see by horse-drawn-transport, miracles are possible.
Have a nice time.

Re: Is parachutable light artillery possible?
I played africa corps through and have seen there is a bigger transport plane available (I think it is called Gigant). I haven´t used or tried it, but can this transport fly around heavier equipment like SOFT units without attached transports from airstrip to airstrip?
Re: Is parachutable light artillery possible?
The Gigant can transport almost anything (including soft units with attached transports and even Tigers) to any hex, not just an airfield hex. The "glider" trait means transportable by Gigant. In all honesty, this is one of the few recent innovations that I have found overly "gamey"--I mean, it is pretty hard to imagine deploying Tigers by glider. Even making them transportable to an airfield is a stretch.

I hate pimping my own work, but it may make it easier for you guys to use the mod or to be able to see what I changed and be able to make the changes yourself
In the Total Elite Units Mod there are airborne A.D.A., A.T., and Arty for all german factions
