Gaps . . .

Post by stockwellpete »

In the production panel there are two gaps, one after the bomber and one after the submarine.

In the management panel there are three gaps in the "Logistical Upgrades" row after "ammo", railways" and "sea transport".

Can these gaps be utilised by adding new units and features to the game, do you think?

Perhaps battle cruisers could fill one of the gaps in the production panel with "cruisers" becoming light cruisers? Pre-dreadnoughts could still be included in the game but they were not still being built by 1914. But what about the gap in the aircraft row? :?

The management panel could see some very interesting additions, I think. What about a "home front" option? A "colonial defence" option? And even an "espionage option"? So PP's could be allocated to those areas and maybe they could be linked to some of the "secondary events" that I am researching at the moment (see the other thread)?

Any thoughts?

I'd sooner see the naval gap taken up with destroyers, with a modest bombardment ability added to the cruisers to fill the battle-cruiser gap and battleships left as-is. Pre-dreadnoughts can be added to Turkey/Spain/Greece/(maybe) Sweden/Russia (replacing the Black Sea Cruiser) to represent substantial but obsolete fleets of those countries, but should remain unbuildable.

The gap in air-construction could be given over to battle cruisers, but that would look messy and, anyway, battlecruisers can be represented as cruisers in-game. I cannot think of any air-unit which should be in-game in addition to those that are already there - the role of scouts is covered by the fighters, and a balloon unit would be fairly useless.

Filing the logisitics gaps may be much more difficult because this appears to require the addition of mechanisms to the game which do not exist at the moment, although maybe someone can correct me on this.

Yes, that may be beyond the scope of the modders. I do think it is an area that might be looked at in future by the developers though.
