Which Henrician?

Post by khurasan_miniatures »

Going to make a Henrician line next, just not sure which period people would prefer, earlier (1513 basically), or later (Boulogne and Pinkie).

There are differences in dress and, to some extent, troop types. If you had to choose one, which would it be?

Well, I won't be buying as I already have plenty of troops... but I think the earlier army offers more possibilities for gaming, with better longbowmen and plenty of men-at-arms. So that's what I'd advise!

Maybe I'll be able to tempt you when you see the models, John! :)

I haven't any Yeomen of the Guard so they might be a clincher.

I would go for 1513 provided you can fill the gap for Flodden Scots as well thereby providing historical opponents.

I find the artillery the big issue for both the English and Scots - especially the Scots heavy guns at Flodden.

I voted for The Bruce on TMP :( , but if you are decided on Henry Tudor then I'd vote for the later period. The Rough Wooing and French intervention appeal to me much more than Flodden, plus the figures should be more ubiquitous.

Sorry not sure what you mean re artillery. Are you saying that you find it difficult to get accurate models?

I find it impossible to find models that represent accurately the heavy artillery used by the Scots at Flodden Field. There are refences to Mons Meg.

As I recall Mons Meg did not go with the army to Flodden but similar guns did so your point is still valid. Frankly I find a real shortage of options for most of the required Scots troop types for Flodden.

John

I think you will be ok - there are a number of ranges carry casualty figures... :)

My Scots don't do dead bodies.
Seriously though it was really disappointing that James the Fourth hadn't managed to hold out at Flodden until full time as England would no doubt have carried out their tradition of losing the battle after the penalty shoot out. Especially as James had his German mercenaries lined up for the first five kicks.

The Earl of Surrey had thought he had lost until he saw all the Scots dead bodies the next morning.

Dead, an utter slander. We were not dead merely dead drunk. I reckon Surrey must have had a beer or two as well.
