Disrespect For The Navys Of The World 1914 - 1918

Post by kirk23 »

I have come late to this game, and I must say I like it alot, but my main interest of the period is the Naval warfare, being British I'm proud of the Naval history of the UK.Now to my major concern with the game, allowing all the major powers just 1 Battleship counter each, is baffling to say the least,I think there would be a huge outcry if the land forces were treated in the same manner,by giving Germany,Russia,France etc just 1 Army counter, and tell them to defend your borders with just 1 counter?

Another player posted this reply in response to a related question of mine about the representation of fleets in the game . . .

"And don't forget, the unit counters, at least for Navel units, do not represent a single ship or even a squadron of a single type of ship but are "fleets" or "task forces" made up of a half a dozen or more squadrons of ships performing different roles for that fleet. The Battleship unit is the Navy's main battle fleet made up 2,3,4 or so squadrons of Battleships as the basis of fire power, with a couple of squadrons and flotillas of Cruisers, Lt. Cruisers and destroyers for screening and recon. The Cruiser unit is pretty much the same but the main fire power is coming for a core set of Cruiser squadrons, not Battleship squadrons."

If you accept this explanation then the naval aspect of the game immediately has a more realistic feel to it, I think.

The biggest problem at the moment is that players can choose to scrap their fleets if they want to. Personally, I think this is barmy, even if the player so doing incurs a penalty on their national morale.
