Panzer Grenadiers
I'm confused about the Panzer Grenadiers given at the start of the '44 Campaign. Their performance doesn't at all match their given statistics, which are those for one of the land transport units. How do I see their real stats? If I can't, how can I gauge whether they are better than a Grenadier unit or pioniere or whatever?
Re: Panzer Grenadiers
I guess I just answered my own question. Their stats *are* the same as the SdKfz thing, it's just that they have a hero attached with absurdly high bonuses (like +9 attack, +4 initiative, etc).
Ok, given that I'm not sure I like the way these units are handled. It seems too gamey to me. Were they done this way just so they could take full movement before attacking? It seems like it would have been better to create a new infantry unit type with greater movement than to make a kludge like this. Dunno, it just rubs me the wrong way.

Re: Panzer Grenadiers
I agree--these units are kinda dopey. Are the poor Panzer Grenadiers glued inside their halftracks, or tethered to them? These units are more like light tanks than any kind of infantry, even motorized.
Maybe the idea could be better operationalized via a switchable unit like the Sahariana?

Re: Panzer Grenadiers
This is something that bothered a few of our testers, which is why we added extra text explanation for these units to help our players understand them.
In the end, with that little bit of confusion cleared up, it was definitely worth keeping these units around as they are. Of course this is also why they only exist as one time offered 'bonus' units, and not as normal units added to the purchase roster. Think of them as special gifts, but like all gifts, if you don't like them you can always return them(disband for prestige).
I personally adore having an infantry unit that can zip around quickly and fight enemy infantry extremely well without a need to dismount, one of the major issues that holds back infantry in campaign play.
It turns out to be a fairly well balanced unit as well, a speedy unit that performs great against infantry in the open or entrenched(10 soft attack 8 close defense WoW!), but they are quite vulnerable to tank and anti-tank units, and suffering from a pretty low ammunition total as well.
On the technical end, it was an interesting experiment as well. Placing transport units independently from any 'parent unit' (can't do that normally) and also flexing the muscles of the relatively new manual hero placement feature. All in all a successful new feature, but like anything new requires a little bit of getting used to and learning.

Re: Panzer Grenadiers
They're probably very welcome if you don't import a core into '44 West so that's good. I'm guessing you're still better off with Yet Another King Tiger in the long run though.
Re: Panzer Grenadiers
I like them because of speed and hitting power against infantry. the only thing I would change is to give them a special look - maybe the same as SE units - to identfy them. Sometimes More than once I have sent my loaded pios in close combat and wonder why they are perfomonig so bad
