charge and conforming

Post by bahdahbum »

Ok here s next beginners question ( beginner with FOG  )

A not so cautious average phalanx 12 bases strongh charged 2 roman cohorts ( elite and superior ).

The phalanx managed to frag the elite cohort ( 4 x 3 on the 5 dice I threw for melee ...imagine , just after having had a small CMT problem at impact )

The second cohort provided an overlap and so could not charge the phalanx who was all alone, flanks wide open . ( Nick in case you are wondering, Nathan was in charge of the seleucid army )

A third cohort comes and charges the flank of the phalanx ( legal flank charge ) . As the front rank of the phalanx is already in contact , I was wondering how many of the three rear ranks would turn to face the charge . I decided the last rank would do so as to leave 3 ranks against the engaged ennemy , but I am far from being sure it is the right answer .

I hope I will soon discover some CV army list of which I have the armies so I can test CV armies :P

MERRY CHRISTMAS

A couple of points on this.

1) Do you mean you threw 3 4s or 4 3s? If the latter you should note that pikes and legions are on equal POAs at impact so 4s are required to hit.
2) A BG cannot double drop cohesion from combat unless it suffered at least 2 more hits than it inflicted.

It entirely depends which bases the chargers contact. Whichever is furthest forward (except the front rank in contact with other enemy) will turn. If it is in 25mm the turned formation will be 1 base wide. If in 15mm, and the 2nd rank was contacted, the turned bases will be 2 bases wide. This is because they obey the normal rules for a 90 degree turn and the depth of 3 bases (45mm) is greater than 1 base width (40mm).

Whaw that was quick

The 4 rank were contacted . As it is 15mm if i understand you well, first rank stays facing the first cohort, what happens to the 3 "rear" ranks ?

I threw 3s, the only result I could not rethrow

The roman BG suffered one cohesion loss at impact, and latter one cohesion loss at melee ( failed the CMT twice, the god of dice was not with me )

They turn 90 degrees, resulting in a 2 wide formation with 1 base in a 2nd rank.

(Having a phalanx charged in the flank is not good)
